Aaron Judge took a big bet on his career when he rejected an extension contract from the New York Yankees during the 2022 off-season, only to end up as one of the most talked about hitters by the end of the season. He entered free agency with an all-time high home run record to his name.

Not only that, Aaron Judge essentially played hard to get as he met with multiple team, including the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres before returning to Yankees. However, at some point in the off-season a famous misspelled tweet set the Yankee world ablaze, including manager Aaron Boone.

Aaron Judge’s trips to California and San Diego sent waves of nervousness and concern in New York as the San Francisco Giants and Padres stacked up record-breaking contracts to lure the home run-hitting matching into their side. Judge was also being recruited back to the New York Yankees on the sidelines as owner Hal Steinbrenner bet everything he had on Judge. However, amidst an intense free agency frenzy, Jon Heyman, the senior most reputed MLB journalist, set the internet ablaze with an iconic misspelled tweet. On Dec 6, 2022, Heyman said, “Arson Judge appears headed to Giants,” and the Yankee Twitter was up in flames. Jon later clarified saying he jumped the gun too quickly and that the Giants are yet to hear back from Judge.

However, the ‘Arson Judge’ Twitter became one of the most iconic free agency moments and even sent down chills to Yankees manager Aaron Boone. He recalled waking up to a series of calls and texts on Dec 6, and while he was confident of Judge’s return, the misspelled Twitter did get him uneasy. But later in the day, Boone revealed that he spoke to Aaron Judge and learned that the now captain was yet to make a decision. 24 hours later, Judge’s return to the Yankees was confirmed as Hal Steinbrenner raised the bar with a $360 million contract along with the captaincy badge. Regardless, while Judge remains in his second year of a 9-year contract, his free agency rendevouz is still popular amongst the MLB fans. Interestingly, Aaron Judge returned to his home town California this week for the first time since 2019 to face the Giants.

Aaron Judge flew down to California with the Yankees for the first time since 2019 for a three-game series against San Francisco Giants. However, despite California being Judge’s hometown, he was greeted with a hostile reception by the Giants fans, who are still spiteful after Judge dumped them in 2022 free agency.

As Aaron Judge walked out for his first at-bat, the Oracle Park erupted in resounding boos. However, an unfazed Yankees captain gave it back with a couple of home runs to lead the Yanks to a 6-2 win in the series opener whilst scripting a couple of league as well as franchise records to his name.
