Generational star Juan Soto is currently showcasing his glorious skills for the New York Yankees as the esteemed franchise traded him from the Padres earlier this off-season. However, the addition is short-lived as Soto is headed to unrestricted free agency next off-season.

While the New York Yankees earlier established intentions of mid-season extension, the now emerging concerns related to payroll have put a hinge on those rumors. Amid widespread speculations surrounding Juan Soto’s future, his agent, Scott Boras, has cleared his client’s stand and potentially hinted at putting a record-breaking price on generational star Juan Soto.

Juan Soto, currently with the New York Yankees, is one of the most talked about talents in MLB momentarily. At just 25, he’s achieved greatness and is poised to finish as a Hall of Famer. However, despite being an elite talent, Soto has been on the move, having to change three teams in the past four years. Regardless, the generational star is set to put an end to this musical chairs once and for all as he enters free agency in 2025. Soto will aim to lock in a decade-long record-breaking contract. And his agent, Scott Boras conveyed the interested team to keep their pockets full next off-season. The baseball market has seen several record-breaking contracts in recent years, including Shohei Ohtani‘s $700 million deal with LA Dodgers.

With Juan Soto’s age and performance metrics, Scott Boras is likely aiming to eclipse even these massive deals. In the latest interview, Boras explained the metric behind Soto’s high value. He referred to Juan Soto as a centurion because he thought the slugger would end up in the top 100 players someday. Boras added that with Soto, he is not worried about the cost but the momentum. He thinks a player like Soto is rare these days, and he can add significant value to a franchise. “Centurion players add literally millions and millions of dollars to a franchise’s value,” argued Scott Boras. He added that such a player comes only rare in a franchise owner’s career, and hence, he expects steep competition for the 25-year-old next off-season. “The only cost is what it costs to build the monument,” Boras said.

Yankees Might Get Ruled Out In Juan Soto’s Pursuit

While the New York Yankees seemed front runners to secure Juan Soto in a mid-season extension deal, Hal Steinbrenner‘s u-turn has left the fans puzzled. After stating that he wants to see Soto in pinstripes for the rest of the slugger’s career, Hal is not worried about the ‘unsustainable’ payroll.

Hal Steinbrenner thinks the Yankees need to cut down loads of money off the annual payroll to ensure the franchise remains sustainable. If money indeed remains an issue going into next season, the New York Yankees can fall out of the Juan Soto pursuit even before the free agency madness begins. Tough times ahead for Hal as he shapes the franchise for the future.
