The 2010 Era, a pivotal period for Mercedes, was marked by unparalleled success. The team, based in Brackley, was at the peak of its glory, dominating the racing circuit. Particularly during the hybrid regulations, they were a force to be reckoned with, clinching a series of world titles. However, since the last race of 2021, the team has been on a downward spiral. Lewis Hamilton’s controversial loss to Max Verstappen in a disputed decision has left the team grappling to regain its footing.

The FIA introduced ground-effect regulations in 2022, and the Mercedes technical team hasn’t been able to decode the hieroglyphics. Therefore, they consistently misfire while designing the F1 project. Moreover, the slump in performance, coupled with Lewis Hamilton’s impending move to Ferrari, has spurred internal tensions. Hence, Toto Wolff has explained the internal dynamic between the two British drivers.

Lewis Hamilton, who is about to achieve his childhood ambition of racing for Ferrari, is now having a difficult season. So far, the British driver has 42 points in eight Grand Prix races. Despite his desire to finish his final season with Mercedes on a good note, the W15’s difficulties impede his performance. Despite Mercedes’ ongoing efforts to improve, underlying issues continue to hold them back. Consequently, the team started well on Friday at Monaco but struggled again during qualifying. While George Russell used a new front wings setup, Hamilton wasn’t ready to risk it. Therefore, the fans believe Mercedes is not treating the seven-time world champion rightly, as he is about to leave. Hamilton and George Russell, two British racecar drivers, have a strained relationship. Since his Mercedes debut, Russell has been regarded as Hamilton’s main rival. Furthermore, Russell is now the Silver Arrows’ number-one driver.

However, Toto Wolff addressed the ongoing tussle during a media interaction. The Austrian executive feels occasional irritations are a common sight among the teammates. As every driver wants to perform the best, there are moments that could heat up. Moreover, Hamilton’s post-race interview ignited speculations as he doesn’t expect to beat Russell in any of the upcoming races. On this remark, Wolff explained that every driver is skeptical, while the team is looking to balance out things while maintaining transparency. In the end, he talked about the Silver War between Hamilton and Rosberg. The rivalry between these two teammates was so intense that the team had to step in. However, he claimed that the Silver Arrows wanted to give both drivers the best car and strategy.

The Monaco GP has been on the F1 calendar since 1955, except for the pandemic year. Therefore, this iconic track should increase motorsport excitement. However, the Monte Carlo street circuit has remained unchanged since 1970. The width of cars has significantly increased in recent years. Therefore, overtaking is almost impossible, depleting the enthralling experience during the Sunday race.

Lewis Hamilton has shared his views on the ever-growing spectrum of F1 and how Monaco could adapt. The Briton told the media that the Monaco GP needs a ‘new formula.’ Otherwise, the race gets dull, taking away the charm of the street circuit.
