In the midst of the 2024 MLB season, speculation surrounding New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto’s future continues to dominate headlines. The generational star is having a dominant run with 35 runs and 11 home runs so far into the season, while his future remains uncertain.

A few days ago, New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner reiterated his intensions to extend Juan Soto’s ongoing one-year contract before the season ends. And Soto expressed his willingness to consider a potential mid-season extension deal. However, an unnamed AL Executive has poured cold water on Steinbrenner’s dreams by ruling out possibilities of such a deal.

Juan Soto is expected to be the most sought-after free agent in next year’s free agency as the generational star is entering the free market for the first time in his career. And with a stellar season currently in the making, Soto’s market value is expected to hit the roof. That being said, before the free agency rendezvous could begin, New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner openly admitted that he plans to offer a mid-season extension offer to Soto and his agent, Scott Boras. He wants to see Soto become a Yankee for life, and the club is ready to go to any lengths to secure his long-term. Moreover, Soto, surprisingly, also left his doors open for Hal.

Responding to Steinbrenner’s comments, Juan Soto said that the doors have always been open for anyone who wants to talk business. And even if it means during the season, his camp has a problem with that. However, an unnamed AL Executive poured cold water on the Yankees’ alleged ambitious pursuit. The mysterious executive feels the Yanks stand no chance of extending Soto in the middle of the season. It’s massively because his agent, Boras, has a reputation of taking his guys, especially prolific names, to free agency to fetch a higher deal by inflating the market. He did that with Blake Snell and Bryce Harper, and he wouldn’t hesitate to do the same for Soto as well. And Juan Soto happens to trust Boras blindly. Hence, it’s impossible for Yanks to convince Soto to go against Boras and commit to Bombers possibly for the rest of his career.

Meanwhile, when sports agent Scott Boras was asked to respond to Hal Steinbrenner’s bombshell interview related to Juan Soto’s future, the agent had an interesting take. Surprisingly, he said that he was open to talking to Hal about any business related to Soto. While Soto is busy with the season, he can surely talk to the owner if he has anything to offer.

Notably, Scott Boras has a reputation for taking his clients to free agency. He is believed to be suggesting the same to Juan Soto, given his $500 million market price. Hence, it would be interesting to see how Soto camp actually responds to Steinbrenner’s mid-season extension offer behind the scenes and if they would be willing to dump a decisive free agency move.
