Anthony Volpe, a New York Yankees farm system product, has been making waves into the big leagues this season. After a decent rookie year in 2023, the kid is showing glimpses of a breakout year in 2024. In 12 games so far, he’s hitting .372 with two home runs, six RBIs and three stolen bases.

Not only that, Anthony Volpe has been delivering in clutch moments, thus leading the Yankees to crucial wins early into the season. With a gigantic leap in offensive form, critics wonder if it’s time for the franchise front office to consider securing Volpe long-term.

Promising infield prospect Anthony Volpe drew comparisons with the legend of Derek Jeter during his rookie with the New York Yankees in 2023. While Volpe finished as a golden glove shortstop, his offensive numbers didn’t match the expectations. Of course, with one full major league season behind his back, Volpe entered his sophomore year with a bang. He was leading the whole league in batting average in the first week and continued to produce match-winning moments for his side. That being said, with a huge leap in year two, Volpe is slowly establishing why he is the future of the franchise, as captain Aaron Judge would like to believe. So, given the trust and faith in the kid’s ability, should the franchise consider a long-term commitment?

Podcaster Joseph Solano threw light on the topic and opined that if the New York Yankees truly believe in Anthony Volpe’s talent and are even slightly moved by his leap this year, perhaps GM Brian Cashman and co. should come up with a decade-long win-win plan. He added the Bronx Bombers must offer a long-term plan to Volpe at a low price and also guarantee him a future without any negotiation conversation. That way, Volpe can be secure in his future and solely focus on his performance on the field. On the other hand, the Bombers can get a thriving kid at a low price and use extra money to perhaps extend Juan Soto or fulfill additional free agency quests. While the prospect of signing a promising talent like Volpe seems palpable, the club would want to wait longer to see if the resurgence is real or a short term rush of blood.

In a hot take, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge endorsed Anthony Volpe as the club’s future generation leader. After the kid smashed a three-run bomb against the Marlins at home, Judge heaped praise on the shortstop’s work ethic and his immunity to adverse circumstances.

Aaron Judge further added that Anthony Volpe’s career trajectory indicates that he is destined to be one of the franchise’s leaders in years to come. He has the temperament and passion to lead the organization to glory. While it may be too early to predict where Volpe end up in the next decade, the early signs are extremely promising for the Yankees.
