New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge remained the team’s hottest hitter in 2023 despite missing nearly a one third season with toe injury. Naturally, had he being healthy, the Bronx Bombers would have finished inside the playoff. Regardless, entering this season, Judge felt no longer the one man army.
The Yankees front office shed off a large chunk of burden off Aaron Judge’s shoulders by adding generational talent Juan Soto to the lineup. However, despite security, the captain witnessed a slow start to the season. Regardless, a star like Aaron Judge cannot stay quite for long and he finally broke the shackles on Wednesday against Arizona Diamondbacks.
Aaron Judge Fires In Yankees 6-5 Win Vs. Diamondbacks To Post First Bomb Of The Season!
New York Yankees fans were a little concerned despite the team’s 5-0 record in the initial days of the 2024 MLB season. The concern stemmed from the lack of firepower from captain Aaron Judge’s bat. In five games, Judge has only two hits to his tally as pitchers preferred to walk him than witness his carnage in the strike zone. Of course, amid his slow start, the rest of the lineup stepped up to record the Yanks’ best start of the season since 1997. That being said, Aaron Judge finally broke through the slump to hit his first home run of the 2024 MLB season. On Wednesday, the slugger smoked Merrill Kelly over the center field to record his first long shot of the year and also awarded the Yankees an early lead into the game.
Having said that, Aaron Judge’s contributions weren’t limited to the two-run bomb. He slammed an RBI single later in the game to guide the New York Yankees to a close 6-5 win over last year’s World Series runners-up, Arizona Diamondbacks. While Judge is off to a slow start, his numbers do not reflect his true potential. Even in limited appearances, the captain has the talent to leave a match-winning impact. Moreover, there is a silver lining to Jugde’s form slump. The Yankees winning without the captain’s offensive contribution is a sign of how the team is getting less dependent on Aaron Judge. This will indeed take some pressure off Judge and also help Bronx Bombers succeed in the long term with collective effort.
Yankees Skipper Unbothered By Judge’s Slow Start!
After Aaron Judge slammed his first home run of the season, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that he was never concerned about the captain’s slow start in the first place. He feels for player of high caliber like Judge, its only a matter of time before they fire at the plate.
“I felt like he was getting there a little bit [Tuesday] night, just missed a couple of swings,” said Boone after the Wednesday game. Notably, Aaron Judge was moved to DH for the series finale versus the Diamondbacks as Trent Grisham got a game at center field. Giancarlo Stanton was given a rest, as he has been constantly on the road since the start of the season.
