Clearly, the Orioles are the team to beat in the AL East this year. But the question is if the NY side can be the team to beat the Orioles. After a terrible 2023 season, the Yankees managed to make a lot of changes. These changes should be significant enough to see the team through to this year’s playoffs.
Last year, the Bronx Bombers could not make it to the postseason for the first time since 2016. They had a terrible batting average in 2023. It was the second-worst in the league behind the Oakland Athletics. But the Yankees made sure this offseason that they have the team in 2024 that’s capable to make the postseason. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers look solid in their outfield at present. But the pitching department can add one more ace. However, Aaron Boone’s side recently lost a viable option in Corbin Burnes to the Orioles. Now, the NY side’s skipper worries if they can finish at the top of their division in 2024.
Yankees Manager Said Losing Burnes To Orioles Can Be A Bit Of A Problem
On Saturday, at Pinstripe Pride in American Dream Mall in New Jersey, while signing autographs, Aaron Boone was open about his concerns about losing Burnes to their division rivals. According to The Athletic, the Yankees skipper mentioned that his first reaction was that it can be a bit of a problem. Boone believes Burnes is an amazing pitcher, and he went to a great team. Adding to that, he mentioned they will see a lot of him. Anyway, the Yankees are looking forward to competing against the best, as per the skipper. Moreover, Aaron Boone noted that his team does have a good depth for starting pitchers as well.
But the concern is about their health. If the NY side starters can stay healthy, they can be really good. Moreover, the Yankees skipper mentioned that there is no reason not to feel excitement. Some of the guys, like Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes, are coming off seasons full of injuries. But Boone feels good about the winter they are having and where they are at. Moreover, the Yankees manager said landing Marcus Stroman was great for the team. Now, they can be really good. All they need to do is to make it happen.
After A Terrible Season Last Year, The Manager Hopes To See Some Surprises This Season
The Bronx Bombers had a great depth in their bullpen last year. But that did not help them make the postseason. Moreover, there were too many injury concerns for some key pitchers like Carlos Rodon. As a result, Rodon really had a disappointing season last year. It was his debut season for the Bombers.
But it didn’t go so well. Since then, the Yankees have not been 100% sure to sign any pitcher for a long-term deal. But the question is if they can sign Blake Snell for his desired deal. Anyway, Aaron Boone believes Rodon and Nestor Cortes will have a much better season this year.
