Gleyber Torres Will Play Out His Final Season Of Club Control With The Pinstripes
Recently, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported that Yankees and infielder Gleyber Torres have avoided arbitration. Last December, Torres turned 27. Moreover, this 27-year-old client of the Octagon will be worth $14.2 million in 2024. Prior to reaching free agency, 2024 will be Gleyber’s final year of club control. In the meantime, he is on his way to become a free agent at that point of his career which is little early compared to other free agents. Last year, Torres had 672 trips to the plate and had a strong slash line of .273/.347/.453. Moreover, he hit 25 home runs last year. Albeit, he has been a good offensive player, his defense has been below-average.
However, the Yankees can never call him a pure liability. Albeit, Gleyber Torres has often been among the rumored trade candidates for the NY side. Moreover, it seems highly likely that Torres will don the Pinstripes uniform until his final season of club control is over. Anyway, the latest Yankees addition has been Marcus Stroman worth $37 million. Clearly, the Bronx Bombers are trying to put the best team on the field this year. Gleyber Torres should play a pivotal role in that team.

Last season, the team’s rotation had no balance. The bullpen had depth, but the outfield was very weak. On top of that, the Bronx Bombers had a terrible offensive performance last year. They were the second-worst team in the league in terms of batting average. Only the Oakland Athletics were worse than the Yankees. Hence, it was clear from the get-go that Brian Cashman and his front office would go all out this winter.
That’s how they managed to land the Dominican superstar Juan Soto. Albeit it is only for a year, Soto will move to another team that will give him a better offer in the free agency. However, the Yankees can keep him if they match whatever offer comes Soto’s way. But Juan Soto might not have too much interest in staying in the Bronx for the long term.
