The New York Yankees and their city rivals, the Mets, received a big blow this offseason. Both were the top favorites to land Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Neither of the two teams got to sign the 25-year-old Japanese sensation. It was not good for their offseason plans. Anyway, the Yankees promised their fans that significant changes would happen this offseason. And the Bronx Bombers did their best so far. They have signed Juan Soto for a year to bolster their offense. Who knows what will happen in next year’s free agency?
But at least for a year, Soto will don the Pinstripe jersey. Besides the roster, the Yankees have made significant changes in their coaching department as well. From the positions of the hitting coach to the bench coach, the NY side will have new names. The Yankees replaced their bench coach, Carlos Mendoza, with Brad Ausmus. Now Mendoza is the new manager of the NY Mets. The city rivals of the Yankees have swiped another coach from them.
Grayson Crawford Moves From Yankees To Mets As A Pitching Coach
On late Thursday, Grayson Crawford made it public that he will be the new pitching coach of the Triple-A Syracuse of the Mets. Previously, Crawford played the same role with the Double-A Somerset of the Yankees. On X, Crawford thanked the Bronx Bombers for the last couple of years. Moreover, he mentioned Sam Briend, to whom he will forever be grateful. He learned a lot from Briend and thanked him for every opportunity that he provided Crawford with in the past two years. Moreover, Grayson believes the Yankees pitching is in good hands.
At last, he wrote on X that he is looking forward to the challenge to help the Mets improve at the highest level. Grayson started his coaching career back in 2011. But the Yankees hired him for the first time in December 2021. A couple of years later, from the MLB, Crawford was one-level removed. Last May, Crawford revealed during a Q&A with The Trentonian’s Greg Johnson that the Yankees got to know about him through word of mouth. The hitting coordinator, Joe Migliacci, dropped his name first. Crawford worked with him at Murray State.
The LA Dodgers Really Turning Out To Be The New Evil Empire
Both the Yankees and the Mets had a lot of plans with the righty pitcher. They need to bolster their bullpen, and Yamamoto was a good choice as their starting pitcher. But the Los Angeles Dodgers hurt the Bronx and the Mets real bad. Now, the two New York sides know how it feels to miss out on a Japanese sensation. A few weeks ago, it was the Toronto Blue Jays who were in the same position as the Yankees and the Mets at present.
The Blue Jays missed out on the biggest free agent this offseason, Shohei Ohtani. Again, it was the LA Dodgers who broke their hearts. And again, the Dodgers broke the hearts of the two New York sides. The Dodgers are gradually becoming the new Evil Empire. But the original Evil Empire will look elsewhere for a starting pitcher.
