Red Bull had the most successful year they could ask for in 2023. Clearly, they had the fastest car on the grid. Moreover, the RB19 is arguably the fastest F1 car there has ever been. On top of that, the Austrian team has the best driver of the generation in Max Verstappen. Moreover, the Austrian team was very close to winning all the races this year. However, the Italian manufacturers denied them that achievement.
But the biggest star for the Austrian team was undoubtedly Max Verstappen, who won as many as 19 races this year. No other driver in history has ever done that before. But without the magnificent RB19 car, this success would not have been possible. However, the genius mind behind the car was not sure if Red Bull would have a great year.
Adrian Newey Says Red Bull Underestimated Their Chances In 2023
Recently, in an interview with Formula For Success podcast, the car designer of Red Bull said he thought the team would have a very tough year. Moreover, Adrian Newey mentioned nobody expected the year to pan out the way it did. The whole Red Bull team thought it was going to be really tough. But Adrian Newey also said the funny thing is that once they are in it, they are not really reflecting. Then the team is just looking forward. Moreover, the car designer mentioned he has never ever been satisfied despite the success and the records Red Bull broke this year.
Adrian Newey believes there is always room for improvement in the car. Hence, Red Bull never really concentrates on the success. But they look for weaknesses and how they can improve on them. Moreover, Newey feels the loss in the Singaporean Grand Prix was useful because it exposed weaknesses in RB19. Hence, Red Bull concentrated on how to eradicate that ahead of the next season. It is all about keep improving and just keep moving forward.
The Austrian F1 Team With The Dutchman Have Been A Deadly Combination
The Dutch racer is really becoming a big obstacle for old horses, like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, to win a race. He has really been unstoppable in the last two seasons as the Milton Keynes team went on to win the constructor titles as well. But it was not the same case in 2021 when Mercedes won their eighth title in a row. However, Max Verstappen broke Hamilton’s streak to win his maiden title in 2021. Moreover, Red Bull really surprised everyone with their package last year.
They won 17 races last year and, in a dominating style, retained the constructor’s title. However, 2023 was a little bit different. It was not very surprising to see Verstappen’s team with the strongest package. But Red Bull took their domination to another level last season. They went on to win 21 races. Ferrari was the only other team to claim victory at a Grand Prix in 2023. And there was the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that got washed out because of the Imola flood.
