The New York Yankees are planning to make big changes this offseason. But the Yankees are trying to have more options for the lefty hitter role. Recently, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the Cardinals and the Yankees may be potential trade partners. As per Goold, the Yankees are eager to partner up with the St. Louis Cardinals for a potential blockbuster trade.
Moreover, Goold said multiple sources confirm that the reason why the Yankees want to negotiate with the Cardinals is because of two left-handed hitters. A couple of pre-arbitration players, Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson, are the potential targets of the Yankees. Both these players are coming out of injuries.
How Productive A Trade Between The Yankees And Cardinals Is Going To Be?
Moreover, Derrick Goold mentioned that he’s not sure if interest in Dylan Carlson has made the Yankees follow them into the offseason. Anyway, Carlson is in the Phoneix Area and is currently trying his best to recover as fast as possible from foot surgery. At last season’s trade deadline, the Yankees discussed with the Cardinals about a trade for Carlson. On the other hand, the Cardinals have an interest in signing reliever Ron Marinaccio of the major league. Along with Ron, the Cardinals also want the pitcher Clayton Beeter of the minor league.
But the Yankees should target Donovan, he’s a top player who’s productive in the offense as well as versatile with defense. On top of that, Donovan is a Gold Glove winner. But he has a contract that expires in 2027. Hence, any deal with him won’t be cheap for the Yankees. Clearly, the Cardinals and the Bronx Bombers can help each other a lot. The Cardinals have a plethora of southpaw hitters/outfielders, and they want quality pitchers. That’s something the Yankees can help them with. Anyway, Brian Cashman talked with the Cardinals at the trade deadline. And he’ll talk with them again in the winter.
The NY Side Needs To Bolster Their Roster This Offseason
After a humiliating season, the 27-time champions are looking for redemption. For the first time since 2016, they failed to make the postseason. Moreover, finishing the season with an 82-80 record has been a tremendous shame. Albeit, they managed to maintain the streak of winning seasons. Nevertheless, they had the worst season in the last thirty years. It has been a wake-up call for the most iconic MLB team to reshuffle the roster and make some significant changes in the whole organization as well. But to do that, the NY side will need other MLB teams to cooperate with them.
Moreover, they need some good hitters and outfielders along with some more options in pitchers as well. Anyway, the Bronx Bombers have a close eye on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the pitcher of the Orix Buffaloes. Moreover, the NY side is one of the top contenders to sign Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. But the Padres may not let him go so soon. Moreover, the lefty outfielder will cost the Yankees a fortune. Anyway, there are more options available, like Cody Bellinger and some more in free agency. Clearly, the Yankees are in desperate need of a lefty hitter. It may be Juan Soto or Cody Bellinger.
