F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton is getting an inch closer every race in 2023 to a P2 finish. He is only 20 points behind Sergio Perez at present. However, there are only three races remaining this season. Hence, it is now or never for the seven-time champion to ensure a P2 finish. Can he get there at the end of the season? It is quite difficult to predict at present as Red Bull is still faster than Mercedes. But it depends on who’s driving. If Max Verstappen is steering the wheel, then it is a different issue.
However, Lewis Hamilton has a better chance of beating a RB19 car that Sergio Perez is steering. At least, that’s what has been happening in this season so far. But the Red Bull boss does not seem to be too happy about the way things ended for Mercedes and Hamilton in the Mexican Grand Prix. As per Christian Horner, Lewis Hamilton got a lot of help from the red flags in Mexico.
Christian Horner Feels Mercedes Was Lucky In Mexico
Recently, Christian Horner told Viaplay in an interview that Fortune favored the Mercedes team because they went in quite early for a one-stop strategy. However, Horner thought Ferraris should have beaten the German team. But the Red Bull boss acknowledged the fact that Mercedes had good speed and were pretty good in terms of tire wear. Moreover, Horner said Lewis Hamilton and his team have been good throughout the season in terms of tire wear as well as speed. Adding to that, Christian Horner mentioned that Red Bull has an unscratched itch to win in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Last season, things didn’t go as planned in Brazil.
Moreover, the Red Bull boss mentioned they did not quite have the setup right last year in Brazil. This time, they want to make things right. But Horner expects good competition from Mercedes. Lately, Horner thinks Mercedes has been pretty competitive, especially on race runs, and Austin was difficult to judge due to what happened. Anyway, Lewis Hamilton had pushed Max Verstappen pretty close at the US GP. In the end, though, Hamilton faced elimination because of illegal skid block wear. But the performances in the triple header so far should motivate Mercedes ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton Is Inching Closer To Topple Sergio Perez From P2 Spot
Checo had yet another DNF in the Mexican Grand Prix. It just does not seem to be working for the Mexican driver in 2023 after having a great start. Sergio Perez disappointed his home crowd last weekend. On the other hand, Max Verstappen won yet another Grand Prix. It was Verstappen’s 16th Grand Prix win this season. Hence, he broke his own record of winning 15 races last season.
Red Bull and Max Verstappen have already clinched the constructor and the driver’s titles, respectively. But Sergio Perez is yet to make sure he finishes at P2 this season. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton is closing by every race in recent times. Therefore, Mercedes and Hamilton have a good chance of grabbing the P2 spot in the constructor’s and the driver’s championships, respectively.
