Who Are The Two Yankees Players Named In AL Gold Glove Finalists?
Anthony Volpe is the youngest Yankee since Derek Jeter to join the team right out of spring training. He is one of the three finalists for the shortstop position. The other two finalists in that category are Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins and Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers. Anthony Volpe appeared in 159 games in his rookie season. He had .970 as his fielding percentage. However, Volpe also committed 17 errors this season. Moreover, the first baseman of the Yankees, Anthony Rizzo, who suffered concussion and post-concussion symptoms, played only 99 games this season. He had won four Gold Gloves in his MLB career already.
But this season he is again a finalist for the first base category. The competitors for Rizzo in this category are Nathaniel Lowe of the Texas Rangers and Ryan Mountcastle of the Baltimore Orioles. In the 99 games he played this season, Rizzo only committed four errors. Moreover, Rizzo also led all AL first basemen with 6 OAA. On top of that, he prevented five runs. As a result, he led all AL first basemen in that category as well. On November 5, the Major League Baseball and Rawlings authorities will announce the names of the winners of the 2023 Gold Glove.
The Bronx Bombers Would Like To Redeem Themselves Next Season
Under Boone, previously, when the Yankees reached the postseason, they performed terribly. They could never really go that far. It is a shame because the NY side has such a terrific roster. Starting with the Captain, Aaron Judge, who has been in great form since last year, and also, they have an excellent bullpen. In fact, the Yankees led the league in terms of their bullpen this season.
Despite talent and skills in their roster, they have not been able to go as far as they would have liked. They only managed to win 82 games this year. It is a tremendous shame for a team like the Yankees in the AL East. Moreover, injuries have been a big concern throughout the year for the NY side.
