The New York Yankees suffered a huge loss this season. Since 2016, the Bronx Bombers could not make the postseason for the first time. They had a miserable season filled with injury concerns and multiple losing streaks. Moreover, the NY franchise came very close to losing the season. However, a few victories ultimately helped them narrowly win the season.
The Bronx Bombers finished the season with an 82-80 record. Nevertheless, it was a horrible result in terms of fan’s expectations. Moreover, the Yankees are pretty famous for their meticulous planning. But they might suffer a massive loss in the current offseason. They might have to let Carlos Mendoza go to the Cleveland Guardians. However, it seems several teams have Mendoza on their radar.
Carlos Mendoza Might Move To The Guardians
As per New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the Guardians, formerly called the Indians, have the Yankees bench coach on their interview list for the new manager. Now the question remains if Mendoza is an ideal replacement choice for Terry Francona, who just retired. Carlos Mendoza is 43 at present, and he has been part of the Yankees franchise since 2009. Mendoza was part of the Minor League System for a long time with the Yankees. After 2019, he joined the major league coaching staff. Moreover, the Yankees front office is aware of how essential Mendoza’s presence has been in several changes in the coaching setup of the NY franchise. Hence, the Yankees might not want to lose Carlos Mendoza. It might be a big blow for the Yankees if they lose him.
Moreover, Carlos Mendoza has been a key part of the franchise’s daily operations. But the manager, Aaron Boone, is kind of an obstacle for Mendoza in his dream to get a managerial post in the Yankees. After all, it seems Boone is staying put with the NY Franchise this offseason. However, all may not be lost for Mendoza’s journey with the Yankees. For instance, if the Guardians plan to move on with other options for their new manager, then Mendoza can continue his journey with the Yankees. Albeit, the Yankees have no shortage of talented coaches in the Minor League, the absence of Mendoza can leave a gap. Moreover, Mendoza has a seasoned experience with the NY team.
Yankees Fans Unhappy With Aaron Boone
Moreover, failing to make the postseason puts a lot of members of the coaching staff in a delicate position of losing their jobs. On top of that, fans have lost faith in the manager Aaron Boone. Many fans requested for a new manager on social media. Albeit, in Boone’s defense, the NY side had made the postseason every time prior to this year since he joined as manager. However, the team has failed miserably in the postseasons since 2018, when Boone became the manager.
Hence, the franchise might look for a complete change since it is high time. But the captain, Aaron Judge, expressed his opinion regarding Boone, saying he should continue to play the role of the manager. Besides the manager post, there are certainly more jobs in the Yankees franchise that might be up for grabs at present. For instance, the current bench coach of the Bronx Bombers might move to the Cleveland Guardians.
