As the 2023 Formula One season approaches its conclusion, Mercedes is already looking ahead to 2024 with a renewed sense of purpose. The team aims to build on their legacy of success and recapture the championship titles they have become synonymous with. But the journey to the top won’t be easy, and Lewis Hamilton, out of all people, understands the gravity of it.
The seven-time world champion, who holds the record for most career wins, has ironically gone without one in over 18 months. Moreover, the wait will extend a bit longer since the W14 does not seem like a winning material car. Thus, the Briton is focused on what’s to come next in 2024 as he recently took stock of the progress in Brackley.
Lewis Hamilton Calls Mercedes W15 Progress A “Top Secret” Project!
Mercedes is believed to have turned the page of the 2023 season as they shift focus on setting foot right in 2024. They understand that the W14 is incapable of chasing the RB19 and thus want to optimize the W15. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, the British driver duo, are reportedly providing valuable inputs. Meanwhile, Hamilton made a surprise visit to the team’s headquarters in Brackley to take stock of the progress. He interacted with the team of engineers and other professionals and assessed if his inputs were being put to use. Recently, at the Qatar GP weekend, the Briton was asked to share the details of his visit.
However, Lewis Hamilton refused. “I can’t tell you; it’s all top secret stuff,” said the seven-time world champion. Regardless, after much appeal, the British driver let out minor details. He said that while he is not an aerodynamicist, the W15’s wind tunnel looks exciting. “There’s bits in the pipeline. There’s stuff being tried all the time,” added Hamilton. Lewis further mentioned that the work is constantly evolving, and new elements are added every day. Thus, he won’t know until the end of winter as to what the car will look like. Regardless, the Briton is extremely excited to see what Mercedes will bring to the table in 2024. After all, he has committed to two more years with the hope of relishing his eight-championship dream.
Hamilton Supports Andretti Autosport’s Entry To Formula One
After endless speculations, Andretti Autosport’s entry to the Formula One grid was finally accepted. The team, led by renowned racing figure Michael Andretti, will become the 11th team on the track. While the announcement has garnered mixed responses so far, Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton publicly displayed his vote of confidence. He says that while the majority of the people on the grid might not like it, he thinks it’s a progressive move.
Lewis Hamilton confessed that he has always felt the lack of enough cars on the grid. Moreover, the entry of an 11th team will bring in more opportunities and jobs for people passionate about working in motorsports. “It’s another two seats available for a female driver to come through. It opens up more possibilities, and I think it would be more exciting for the race,” added Hamilton. Having said that, an official announcement of the deal is yet to come through.
