Lewis Hamilton has been part of the golden generation of the Mercedes F1 team since 2013. Especially thanks to him, Mercedes dominated the grid from 2014 to 2021. In these seven years, Hamilton won six titles, adding to his first back in 2008. He had faced competition from his teammates as well in the dominant years of Mercedes. At first, it was Nico Rosberg, and later there came Valtteri Bottas. Moreover, Nico Rosberg won the 2016 title by beating Hamilton after a close fight. Later, Hamilton came close to winning his eighth title in the last year of his team’s hegemony. However, it was the period of a new age in Formula One.
A new champion emerged with Max Verstappen winning his first title, and the torch moved back to the team that ruled from 2010 to 2013, Red Bull. But Lewis Hamilton kept hanging since then on seven world titles equaling the great Michael Schumacher. Later, though, he signed a contract that extended till the end of the 2023 title. But he mentioned before that he wants to stick around until he wins the eighth championship. However, the question remains if Mercedes can get him there. Even then, it seems Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are ready to sign a two-year contract extension.
Toto Wolff Reveals Mercedes Is Planning A Two-Year Extension Of Hamilton’s Contract
Moreover, Toto Wolff mentioned after Hamilton got the pole position that, albeit they have not signed anything formally, Hamilton and his team have extended the contract emotionally. After the post-race interview with Mercedes boss, a few budding reporters of Sky Sports informed that Toto Wolff mentioned they would have a two-year extension. Hilariously, Wolff had whispered the possibility of a two-year extension to some young Sky Sports German reporters.
So Toto told one of the child reporters of Sky Germany that Lewis will extend his contract for two years.

But the reporter just said it out loud on live television later. Despite what certain rumors suggest that Ferrari is trying to sign Lewis Hamilton, the Hamilton-Wolff duo repeatedly told the media that it is just a matter of time. They have a strong understanding, and it is not about the money anymore. Wolff suggested that the deal is more about the team’s future and how much more they can optimize. The Hamilton and Mercedes fans have been waiting for a final confirmation for a long time now.
Lewis Hamilton Raised Hopes Securing His 104th Pole Position But Failed To Convert It
Moreover, as the 38-year-old champion racers career is at twilight, fans wonder if he will sign another multi-year contract with Mercedes. Moreover, the former constructor champions have been struggling with the car since last year. It has been a long time since Hamilton won a race. The seven-time champion last won a race in the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
However, lately, Lewis Hamilton got his 9th pole position in Hungary and the 104th in his career. He raised the hopes of the Mercedes fans as well as his of winning his 104th race as well on Sunday. But unfortunately, it was not meant to happen. Max Verstappen won again. It was the Dutchman’s ninth win this season. Moreover, Hamilton could not even get a podium in Hungary, for crying out loud.
