Franchy Cordero, who joined the New York Yankees on March 30, 2023, was once a non-valuable asset for the direct rivals, the Red Sox. Last year itself, he became a free agent after failing to show consistency and good performance in the Boston team. He could not prove himself to be worth preserving in the team when the Red Sox released a budget-friendly players list for the 2023 world series. Now, the saddest thing for Franchy is that the Red Sox did not even misses him. Apparently, he was just an extra player for them.

The Boston baseball team made the decision to release Franchy Cordero after looking at his performance in the past two seasons. Where he remained a failure. However, no doubt, the 28-years outfielder is indeed getting the spotlight in Yankees after he signed a split deal with them. But his contract’s worth is only $1 million in the major leagues and $180,000 in the minor leagues. Luckily, he started this season hot, batting .294 in 17 at-bats, and has 2 HR with the Yankees.

But still, Cordero has got a lot to prove. The Yankees now have him through the spit deal, but they did not yet specify the position for the ex-Red Sox outfielder. Not only offensively, but Franchy will also have to do better in defense if he wants to play for a longer time.

Not A loss For Red Sox, But Franchy Cordero Is A Need For the Yankees Now

Unfortunately, the 28 years old baseball player does not have a good history. He often struggled to find an identity among the good players of the Red Sox during his tenure. Hitting .24o in 70 games, it was hard for him to make the transition to first base. Moreover, how can one forget the 8 errors he made in the 58 games?

Red Sox traded him from the Kansas City Royals with hopes of starting the 2021 season with a good roster. But Franchy Cordero just disappointedly forgot to match any of their’s expectation. And that is the reason why despite looking at their good performances of his with the Yankees, the Red Sox do not regret losing him. He was never a big loss to them.

But, amid this bad image of his, it should be noted that the Yankees somehow recognized his worth. Whatever the expectations the Yankees had, he is meeting them. After the spring training, Franchy gave a winning run to the Yankees against the team he was playing with last year.

Currently, he is Yankees left-handed-hitting slugger. It was his fifth start with the Bronx Bombers on Monday, and he had already made an impact on the team with the two home runs and 1.257 OPS he made in the previous four games. So yes, so far, the Yankees are not regretting their decision. Perhaps they needed someone like Franchy Cordero.
