The worst version of the car that Mercedes had ever made is none other than W13. Apparently, the car was the first Mercedes model that gave bouncing issues which is known as porpoising issues in Formula One. It not only put Lewis Hamilton’s dignity at risk but also risked his life. Once in Baku, during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2022, Hamilton faced huge porpoising issues in the car which not caused physical harm but it also harmed him mentally. After the season ended when Hamilton was shown one of the glimpses of Baku where he was coming out of the car, he claimed the moment as one of the most hurtful moments in his career.
The new technical ground floor regulations hold alone all the responsibilities for Mercedes fall. But somehow, the team already knew that they failed to adjust to the rules. Even before the season began, in Bahrain itself, Mike Eliott knew that W13 is not flawless. But it is capable of letting them pass the season without a win was unexpected. However, now the team is heading with hopes for the 2023 Formula One championship. They now know where the team needs to work in order to make the W14 better and flawless.
Toto Wolff Compares The 2000s Stock Market Crash To Mercedes Current Failure
Mercedes principal Toto Wolff believes that the primary reason why they had to face such a disastrous year was a lack of experience with ground-effect cars. The team indeed dominated the sport when the turbo hybrid era was in existence. The bad times and good times, all come and it is all about the experiences. He intended to compare the current scenario of Mercedes with the stock market crash that took place in the first decade of the 21st century.
In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Toto Wolff explained that he sees the capital market investors who are enjoying their lives today but had a very struggling phase during the 2000s because they did the made mistake as Mercedes did. Same as Mercedes did not have experience with the new rules, and the stock market investors did not have much experience in the 2000s. “It is not enough to read in a book how the stock market crash happened or the internet bubble burst,” said Wolff.
Wolff, Himself Witnessed The Stock Market Falling To The Ground From The Roof
However, in 2022 looking at the stock market thing, it is the most successful thing at present today. Toto Wolff belonged to the finance field before coming to Formula One. Also, he himself witnessed how everything in the 2000s went to crash from the roof. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that these crashes are just a snapshot. Mercedes’ boss knows that a person admits to themself that the market was overheard and valuations were too high. This went very fast forward to this year. Nevertheless, despite the negative macroeconomic environment, we can see astronomical valuations for the internet and several tech start-ups.
So Mercedes will also rise like the stock market and will definitely remove the porpoising issues by the winter break. This year let’s hope for a three-way battle for the championship including Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari.
