As soon as the trade window opened up, Los Angeles Lakers fans built a lot of hope in their hearts. The fans desperately wanted a fresh face to rescue the team from a big deep hole. The Lakers are struggling at 12th in the Western Conference points table. On top of that, the purple and gold lost consecutive matches last week by the closest of margins due to choking in the final seconds.

Several rumors and speculation surfaced during the trade window. However, any possible trade looked unlikely as the team devoted their focus to getting the injured clan back into the court. But, the fans’ prayers have finally been answered as the Lakers finally made their first trade official on Monday. The club signed Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizard in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and a couple of second-round picks.

What Does Rui Hachimura’s Addition Mean For The Lakers?

Washington Wizard’s forward Rui Hachimura entered NBA during the 2019 draft pick. Last season, Rui played 42 games and averaged 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. However, his three-point average shot up to 44%. The 6 foot 8 is young and will turn 25 in a few weeks. Hence, his youth played a larger role in his acquisition. The Lakers need a forward to fill in for Anthony Davis until his return. Hence, Rui could be a good addition.

Meanwhile, Rui Hachimura could also start with LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the front of the court. James is stranded at one end with no support from the other since AD’s absence. Now, Rui’s addition will surely help James with his workload. Moreover, AD is likely to return at the end of this week or the following week. If the three players control the forward attack, the Lakers are in for a treat. Overall, Rui Hachimura’s addition could be a massive booster for the struggling Lakers.

Kendrick Nunn, Two Others Traded To Washington Wizards

In acquiring Rui Hachimura, the Lakers handed over Kendrick Nunn and two second-round picks to the Washington Wizards. Nunn sat out for most of the season owing to a knee injury and has had much less game time. Moreover, Lonnie Walker IV has recovered and will return to the lineup. Hence, Nunn’s time was done, and the Lakers no longer required his services.

On the other hand, to further strengthen the Lakers’ forward attack, Anthony Davis is on his way back to the court after suffering from a stress foot injury. AD has been MIA since December and will likely return this week. Furthermore, the Lakers have already won their last couple of games with a killer instinct. The team has undoubtedly bounced back, but they have lost a lot already. Hence, the recovery will require the blood and sweat of the entire team.
