The New York Yankees are all set, as they have ticked off all the points they needed to make in the offseason. The Bombers are one of those teams who buy the players to win the season, excluding all the factors such as expenses. Such luxurious behavior also costs them a heavy penalty for crossing the allotted amount to spend on players. But the money is to such an extent that even the tax liability is not an issue for the team. And to further define the franchise, the Yankees are the second biggest sports franchise in the world.
The Yankees have successfully fulfilled their offseason goals as they have managed to retain Aron Judge for the next nine years. Apart from signing the best outfield player, the Bronx Zoo required a world-class pitcher who could mesmerize batsmen with his pitch. So the Yankees went on to sign strong big armed Carlos Rodon to a six-year deal. The whole team believes that his mentality to win and his aggressiveness will greatly help the squad. Apart from Rodon, the team also resigned first baseman Anthony Rizzo to their bullpen.
Problems In The Yankees For Infield Position
Although the Yankees have had huge spending, they still have to address some major problems in the team. The Evil Empire still has to make room for one infielder, but the team holds two players for one spot. As the season is about to knock on the door, Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza are fit and healthy to play.
And apart from the two in-form players, the Yankees also have two bad performers with active contracts with the franchise. Isiah Kiner Falefa and Gleyber Torres are two players who had a disappointing last seaosn for the team. And the Bombers are not the team who offer second chances looking at their will to win.
The infielders are highly likely to be traded as their performance has been inconsistent over the years. However, Torres has had a few games but no such performance, which would make him open for the Yankees on opening day. But his stats show some potential as he hit 24 home runs, 76 RBIs, and stole ten bases. Such conditions inside the team could make New York make some harsh decisions after the spring training. Meanwhile, the Yankees roster becomes the second-highest payroll in the MLB. New York Mets take the first, making the Bombers settle for second place.
