It looks like the New York Yankees\’ Jacob Barnes only had a one-day stint as a player. The Yankees defeated Baltimore 8-0 on Saturday, the former Detroit Tigers reliever worked one and a third innings without allowing a run. However, immediately following the game, he was assigned. Reportedly, Chi-Chi Gonzalez, a former colleague from Toledo\’s Triple-A affiliate, is now taking his spot. In his 2022 system, Gonzalez, 30, only spent a brief period of time with the Tigers.

Gonzalez played briefly in the big leagues after signing a minor-league contract with the Minnesota Twins before spring training. Milwaukee claimed him after Minnesota designated him for assignment. He made two starts and pitched in four games. Before choosing to opt out of his minor league contract, he threw in five games for the Mud Hens under an agreement with the Tigers. And ultimately, in late August agreed to a minor league contract with the Yankees. On Saturday, Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre picked his contract. However, Gonzalez would not stay with the Yankees for very long, according to what Barnes\’ past experiences have shown.

Now, in order for the Yankees to win their remaining regular-season games and secure a postseason spot, pitchers must consume innings. On Saturday, Barnes fulfilled that role. Prior to being designated for assignment in June, Barnes, 32, was on the Tigers\’ opening-day roster and worked out of the bullpen. In 20 2/3 innings, he went 3-1 with a 6.10 ERA while walking nine times and striking out ten.

Ron Marinaccio Might Exit Yankees Squad As Shin Injury Looming!

Several injuries have marred the New York Yankees\’ history. And the list of players injured this season has included another significant name from the Yankees bullpen. Pitcher Ron Marinaccio left the field in the seventh inning of the team\’s 3-1 defeat to the Orioles with a shin injury that had affected him all season.

With four games remaining in the regular season, the Yankees\’ unsteady bullpen is the newest cause for concern. However, any decision on Marinaccio\’s availability for the remainder of the season will be made when the club receives the findings of Monday\’s MRI, according to manager Aaron Boone. It should be noted that earlier in the year, Marinaccio underwent an MRI and CT scan, both of which revealed no issues.

Sunday\’s game saw Marinaccio replace an ineffective Aroldis Chapman. Prior to Austin Hays\’ sacrifice fly giving Baltimore a two-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh, Marinaccio struck out the next two hitters he faced. Boone added that Marinaccio\’s suspension for the remainder of the regular season was \”not necessary.\” However, he hesitated to make that decision until he knew what the testing revealed.
