This season already seems over for the New York Yankees. While they still remain active in the playoff contention, the odds of success are very slim. Having said that, the club owner, Hal Steinbrenner, needs to do some rethinking to shape a better future for the Yankee organization. Under his leadership, the team has failed to secure a World Series championship. Hence, here are five ways Steinbrenner can change the team’s fortunes and secure a far better future.

1. Fire Brian Cashman And Aaron Boone

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman needs to be the first one out. His questionable trade moves and off-season acquisitions have majorly doomed the team for the worst. Moreover, after the recent trade deadline, the rage against GM has just been increasing. Apart from the fan’s resentment, his track record as the club’s general manager also works against him. Hence, Cashman needs to be replaced sooner or later. Without Cashman, Aaron Boone’s usefulness as a manager is also not too great. As a result, the Boone-Cashman managerial duo needs to exit the organization soon.

2. Engage In Trade With Marlins

Miami Marlins were reportedly interested in Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres at the recently concluded trade deadline. However, the Yanks heavy demand stalled the deal. But the Bronx Bombers have a lot to benefit from if they lent out the right offer. The New York-based team could offer Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu to Marlins in exchange for young right-hand pitcher Edward Cabrera. With this deal, the Yanks can part ways with slumping aged veterans and gain a 23-year-old pitcher with loads of potential. This way, the team secures its long-term pitching depth.

3. Engage In Trade With The Cardinals

At this trade deadline, the New York Yankees tried to trade outfielder Dylan Carlson from St.Louis Cardinals. However, the team did not let out the right offer. But if one considers the broader perspective, the Yanks can land an even better deal. In an ideal trade package, the Bombers could offer pitcher Nestor Cortes to the Cardinals in exchange for Dylan Carlson, along with catcher Ivan Herrera. Dylan and Ivan both are under 25 and could prove to be great long-term candidates.

4. Engage In Trade With Padres

New York Yankees targeted Juan Soto at the trade deadline. But under no circumstances San Diego Padres would be willing to part ways with their best-performing outfielder. But in an alternative deal, the Yanks could pitch for INF Jake Cronenworth in exchange for Anthony Rizzo and Clay Holmes. While Cronenworth has not been at his best this season, the 29-year-old could provide more value to the Bombers than Rizzo. He is 34 and is in the last stretch of his career. On the other hand, Clay Holmes could be put on the package to lure the Padres into accepting the deal. All in all, it’s a win-win deal for both clubs.

5. Seek Players Other Than Shohei Ohtani In Free Agency

Just like every other club in the league, the New York Yankees are also obsessed with landing Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani, known as one of the best players in the league, is likely to enter free agency next season. However, it’s not ideal for Yanks to shell out hundreds of millions when they can land good options for a cheap deal. Rather than Ohtani, the Bombers could target OF Cody Bellinger, 3B Jeimer Candelario, 1B Rhys Hoskins, and LHP Jordan Montgomery. These players will bring more value to the team collectively than a single Ohtani.
