Aaron Judge is now a Yankee, finally. But remembering the dramas that went on during his free-agent period is heartbreaking, especially for the Bronx Bombers fans. Till the last possible moment, Aaron Judge twisted the plot. First the Yankees, then Giants, then the Padres, then again the Giants, and then finally the Yankees! Most of the time, everyone felt that the slugger is inclined toward San Fransisco. And after the TIME interview, the Yankees\’ management was 100% sure that they were losing the AL MVP of the year to the Giants.
Reportedly, when Aaron Judge was named \’Athlete of the year\’ by Time Magazine, they took an interview with the slugger and published it last Tuesday. And, after reading the Magazine the next morning, the Yankees were sweating by watching their star player slipping off their hands. In the interview, taken amid the controversy of Judge\’s contract, he disclosed his conversations with Brian Cashman regarding the deal. Aaron revealed, \”I was a little upset that the numbers [amount] came out. I understand it is a negotiation tactic. Put Pressure on me. Turn the fans against me, turn the media on me. That part of it I did not like at all.\”
Aaron Judge was talking about the offer that the Yankees had put before him in the first place. He directly refused to accept a $213.5 million, 7-year contract and continued being a free agent to find a worthy contract. However, Judge never wanted to disclose the amount of the deal, because of which he chose not to be a Yankee because this brings the media on him, and also, some of the fans turns down. But as Brian Cashman did reveal the contract rejection with the numbering details, it disappointed the record breaker slugger.
Aaron Judge Chose His Legacy Over Dollars And Became A Yankee
At the time of contract negotiations, one of the officials from the Yankees said to ESPN, \”I felt that we are going to lose him.\” And, with the San Francisco Giants\’ entry in the battle, Aaron was a bit tempted with a $300 million. To give the last take, the Yankees offered Judge a nine-year guaranteed deal with $360 million dollars. And, not to mention that Giants were ready to bring the same or even a bigger deal within a second. As a result, the Bronx Bombers felt helpless.
Adding fuel to the fire were the Padres, when they marched in with a $400 million 10-year deal. Seemingly, the Yankees and Giants both were shocked. They just waited to see what would happen. Meanwhile, New York\’s baseball manager could not resist directly talking to Aaron if he wanted to be a Yankee or not. At the possible moment, Hal Steinbrenner talked to Judge and finally revealed that Aaron Judge is back in New York for the next nine years!
Aaron Judge had the opportunity to take a $400 MILLION DOLLARS deal. Or A 10 YEARS GIANTS deal, but he chose his legacy over dollars. Yankees have Aaron\’s history, and only they will have Aaron\’s future.
