The New York Yankees have done a remarkable job in the offseason. After the 2023 season, the NY side was in no position to reclaim the contention for the World Series. They were not even the best team in the American League East Division. On the other hand, the Baltimore Orioles had a far better season than their New York rivals. In fact, the Orioles had the best season last year in their franchise history, winning over 100 games. On the other hand, the Bronx Bombers finished third in the AL East. Lately, the Orioles signed Corbin Burnes, making the roster look stronger and far better.

It might worry the Yankees Nation. But still, they have a pretty reliable batting lineup, and the outfield looks really improved. Moreover, the fans in New York are eager to see the duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto go all guns blazing this year. On top of that, the Yankees have the last year’s AL Cy Young winner. But still, the starters’ group looks a bit shaky. Lately, the Spring Training has begun with players reporting for on-field workouts in Florida and Arizona. But the Yankees GM said they are still open to add to their roster’s depth.

Even now, fourteen free agents of the overall fifty names during the start of the offseason are still without contracts. Moreover, four of those remaining free agents are among the top ten players in the league. Some teams will suddenly spring into action for signing a few of those free agents at some point. The Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels are still looking to sign some of the top free agents available in the market. On Thursday, Brian Cashman said in an interview with The Athletic that they are not “Pencils down by any means.” Moreover, the general manager mentioned if there are any ways to improve the roster, they will be open-minded.

Adding to that, Cashman revealed what he truly believes about having a strong pitching department. The Yankees GM mentioned that a team can score as much as they want. But at the end of the day, “The pitching will always be the key to the kingdom.” Moreover, Cashman noted that the goal is to be the last team standing. To do that, Cashman knows that they have to address the situation of the starting rotation. Anyway, the general manager finds no reason not to believe in the Yanks and their pitchers. But the health of the team will be the key at the end of the day.

The Yankees have been top favorites to sign lefty pitchers like Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell. But heading to the spring training, they are still free agents. About that, Cashman said he does not really have anything to say about it. But the Yankees GM mentioned that Scott Boras has taken his clients into spring training in the past as well.

Later on Thursday, Brian Cashman said in an interview with the Talkin’ Yanks podcast that they had a lot of conversations regarding Blake Snell’s pitching. But ultimately those talks didn’t lead to anywhere any of those occasions. Moreover, Cashman had nothing more to add to that.
