Jazz Chisholm Jr arrived at the New York Yankees with a bang to score seven home runs in 14 games and even transformed from a center fielder to third baseman overnight to suit the Yanks’ needs. However, the euphoria was short-lived as the slugger suffered an injury setback on August 12.

In the series opener against the White Sox, Jazz Chisholm Jr was sliding down home when he hurt his left elbow. After UCL diagnosis, the Yanks expected a significant layoff before Jazz suggested an optimistic 10-day timeline. Amid the confusion, Yankees manager Aaron Boone shed light on Chisholm’s progress in the latest Talkin Yanks podcast.

New York Yankees placed third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr on 10-day IL amid a clinical offensive resurgence. Jazz was on a roll since getting traded from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline. However, while sliding down home to score a run against the White Sox, Jazz hurt his elbow. After MRI scans showed a UCL injury, the team consulted expert opinion, and several doctors ruled out the surgical route. Regardless, Chisholm was expected to be off for a long haul. However, the slugger raked up the fans when he said that he expects to be back by as early as the 10-day timeline. Jazz explained that he hasn’t felt any pain since the injury occurred and is on the right path of recovery.

Having said that, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone busted Jazz Chisholm Jr’s myth. In a Talkin Yanks podcast appearance, Boone revealed that Chisholm’s 10-day timeline is ambitious. But on the brighter side, the slugger’s confidence reflects on his speedy recovery. “Good news is that he is feeling like it is a possibility,” Boone said. The skipper further added that Jazz resumed hitting off the tee this week and is expected to ramp up quickly as they move on. However, it is also important to be mindful as the Yanks do not wish to put Chisholm in a difficult situation where he is prone to further setbacks. Overall, the Bronx Bombers firmly expect the mid-skid addition to bounce back from the injury setback before the end of the 2024 season, possibly in mid-September. Until then, Oswald Peraza and DJ LeMahieu will continue to split time at third base.

Meanwhile, New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who is recovering from arm fracture, took some batting practice against right hander Ian Hamilton. Aaron Boone later revealed that Rizzo hadn’t lost his strength during his rehab. His latest scans showed healing but he is still not a 100%.

While the New York Yankees haven’t scheduled another scan for Anthony Rizzo, the skipper is looking forward to seeing Rizzo get back his steam. “If that thing was totally healed, like where he’s at right now [at the plate], he’d be out there playing,” Boone said. However, full recovery is a priority to eliminate the chances of any further setbacks.
