Yankees Severino & Castro Added To 60-Day IL! Struggling Joey Gallo Traded To Dodgers

Yankees

The New York Yankees have clearly strengthened their lineup during the final few moments of the trade deadline. At the same time, they had to make some forced reshuffled with looming injuries to some crucial players. Luis Severino and Miguel Castro, who were on a 10-day IL, were moved to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Pintstripers also traded a struggling Joey Gallo to the Dodgers. This did not end here, as Clarke Schmidt has been sent back to play for Triple-A Scranton, while Carlos Espinal has been promoted to the active roster.

Luis Severino was sidelined as a result of a strained muscle in mid-July. The two-time All-Star was ready to get back to the active roster after starting the throwing program on Monday. However, it turns out Severino is likely to be sidelined until mid-September. Thus, the two-time All-Star might find himself straight into the bullpen role again with no time to stretch out his arm. Meanwhile, Castro\’s return had also been delayed. The Yankees pitcher will have to find a spot in the middle of a remodeled bullpen with the addition of Scott Effross and Lou Trivino to the squad.

Elsewhere, Clarke Schmidt was demoted after tossing three relief innings on Saturday. The Bomber made a move to bring in a fresher player and prevent being short of players. Carlos Espinal would replace Schmidt after a solid year so far for the Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton. The 25-year-old has an ERA of 2.59, along with 48 strikeouts in 48.2 innings. Espinal is expected to be a short-term addition to the roster before the newly acquired players arrive at the Bronx stadium. Espinal will probably make his Yankees debut tonight against Seattle.

Yankees Trade Joey Gallo To The Dodgers

Joey Gallo has struggled at the baseline this season. He was recently traded for the second time in a year to Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The two-time All-Star had a tough run with the Yankees this season. In 140 games and 501 plate appearances, Gallo hit 25 home runs and secured just 46 RBI, hitting at .159 and struck out 194 times. This time, the former Yankees left fielder finally opened up about his disappointing run with the Bombers.
