The two New York teams are favorites to land the best hitter in baseball. But the problem for the Bronx Bombers is their already expensive payroll. They have signed superstar players for long-term deals already, like Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. But as per Scott Boras, Juan Soto’s asking price might be around $500-600 million.
Yankees Won’t Offer Juan Soto A Deal Beyond Their “Fixed Cap”
Recently, in an interview with Sportsnaut.com, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale mentioned that Juan Soto could make a price demand that would be too much for the Yankees to pay. Moreover, Nightengale believes the Bronx Bombers could let Aaron Judge go in 2022 if he had demanded a deal that’s worth more than $400 million. Adding to that, the USA Today reporter said, “Honestly, there is a point where it will become too much for Hal Steinbrenner and co.” But he also mentioned that if the Dominican slugger was doing the same thing in 2023 that he is doing this year, then the San Diego Padres would not let him go. Nightengale believes Soto underperformed while he was with the Padres.
Adding to that, Bob mentioned that Juan Soto started to put big-time numbers when the Padres were already out last season. Nonetheless, Nightengale thinks his time with the Padres was very “Disappointing.” Then, he asked the vital question, “Which Juan Soto do you think you’ll be getting?” Finally, the MLB pundit said that players in their walk year generally put up big numbers. Nightengale’s right on the note as Juan Soto is already averaging .313 with 18 home runs and 55 RBIs. Who wouldn’t want a player like that in their team? Now, the fans wonder if the Yankees are willing to offer Soto a contract worth more than $400 million.
The Dominican Slugger Might Not Earn “Shohei Ohtani Money”
