Yankees Recall Miguel Andujar To Replace Injured Matt Carpenter!

Miguel Andujar Yankees

The New York Yankees suffered a huge blow to their hitting department On Monday during a 9-4 victory against the Mariners. The Yankees\’ third baseman Matt Carpenter suffered a left foot fracture. Matt fouled on an 88-mile pitch from Logan Gilbert during the first innings. The three-time All-Star continued the at-bat and was struck out during the next pitch. He eventually left the game to get the scans and the treatment done. The Yankees lost Carpenter at a crucial time, with just eight weeks to go in the regular season.

Matt has been in exceptional hitting form since his return to the majors with the Yankees this season. In 47 games and 127 at-bats, Carpenter is averaging .307 with 15 homers and 37 RBIs. The left-hander has an outstanding OPS of 1.138, the second highest on the team after Aaron Judge.

However, now, the Yankees have recalled Miguel Andujar as Carpenter\’s replacement on the roster. He has been playing in the minor league for Triple-A Scranton and has scored 12 home runs this year. However, the right-hander has only made 92 appearances with a .583 OPS for the Yankees since 2019. Andujar was immediately added to the lineup for Tuesday\’s game against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park.

Andujar Takes Over From Carpenter At The Yankees

Talking about his addition, the Dominican player said that Carpenter had been great this year but could only control what he could do. Carpenter was supposed to see the Seattle Seahawks doctor on Wednesday before returning to New York, where the injury\’s severity and its exact nature would be examined. With the injury, Carpenter is expected to miss out for at least four-to-six weeks. However, the Yankees would hope the two-time Silver Slugger winner to return as soon as possible.

Further, Dr. Robert Parisien suggested it was impossible to find how long Carpenter would be out without knowing the type of fracture and its location. Robert reckoned that if there was no displacement, Matt could be back on the field quite soon. And if it is displaced, Carpenter might have to undergo surgery which would cost him more time. The Yankees still await a complete report on Carpenter\’s injury, who claimed to be not ready for his season to come to an abrupt end. Matt joins Giancarlo Stanton at the IL, with Anthony Rizzo also being sidelined for the last four games due to lower-back tightness. Hopefully, Carpenter could return soon before the end of the regular season.
