Carlos Rodon, the left-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, achieved a significant milestone on his road to recovery from an injury.
The New York Yankees faced a major blow ahead of the 2023 MLB season opening day as their ace pitcher Carlos Rodon, suffered a forearm muscle strain during spring training. The promising southpaw, who came in this off-season on a six-year deal, shattered the excitement and anticipation in the aftermath of an injury. Moreover, the team later informed that he would begin the season on the dreaded injury list.
Losing Carlos Rodon is a massive setback for New York Yankees’ starting rotation. The team is already reeling under serious injury concerns as Luis Severino and Tommy Kahnle is set to miss the opening day. Hence, at this point, Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes remain the only two healthy pitchers in the rotation. Regardless, some positive news is coming in from the camp as Rodon has upped the recovery process.
Carlos Rodon Throws 30-Pitch Session For The First Time Since Injury
Left-hand pitcher, Carlos Rodon, is currently on a rehab assignment with the New York Yankees’, where he is working on his forearm injury. He has been making steady progress, but the team is not setting a specific timeline for his return to the majors. In the past week, he threw multiple 15-pitch sessions and showed steady growth. Meanwhile, the pitcher has now hit a new benchmark in the throwing process.
Carlos Rodon on Monday did a 30-pitch bullpen session for the first time since injury diagnosis. The number of pitches doubled since last week, and the pitcher did a fair job. Moreover, he infused the sliders, which strained his forearm in the first place. However, for the time being, he stayed away from the fastballs and stuck to curve balls and sliders. Speaking after the session, Rodon looked confident and said rehab is his first priority, and he is looking forward to the live session. As per the southpaw, he needs to face the hitters in real time to know where he stands. As of now, he is happy with the increased intensity on the mound.
Luis Severino Suffers From Lat Strain, Placed On Injury List
Meanwhile, as the Yankees breathe a sigh of relief after Carlos Rodon’s latest injury update, Luis Severino is out with some bad news. Luis, an opening-day starter for the Bombers, suffered a strain in his lat and is now placed on the injury list. Further, he will likely miss the opening day game as no timetable remains set for his return. Luis is the third regular starter to land up on the injury list after Carlos Rodon and Tommy Kahnle.
On the other hand, Domingo German and Clarke Schmidt, who were fighting a battle for the fifth starter, will now both get a chance to feature in the starting line. As the team faces pitching depth issues, many of the bullpen arms stand in queue for their chance. For them, the injury concerns come as a mere blessing in disguise.
