The New York Yankees roster have been been known as super prone to injuries due to the average of the lineup which exceeds 30. Last year, the team paid a heavy price for the absence of key players like captain Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Nestor Cortes amongst many more.
However, this year surprisingly, the New York Yankees turned out the most durable roster in the league. As a result, the team witnessed position results and are currently leading AL-East with 37-18 record. Interestingly, franchise owner Hal Steinbrenner has revealed that the upgraded clubhouse technology is the main cause behind reduced number of injuries this year.
Hal Steinbrenner Discloses Investment In High-Tech Recovery Tools
The New York Yankees have seen a notable reduction in player injuries this season. Only ace Gerrit Cole and DJ LeMahieu are a couple of notable names sitting out. But the duo incurred injuries before the season began. Hence, it’s got nothing to do with the regular season grind. Moreover, at a time when rival teams are reeling under massive injury concerns, the Yanks, who have historically been synonyms to injuries, have surprisingly kept the IL list short this year. That being said, franchise owner Hal Steinbrenner recently shared the main reason behind the reduced number of injuries this year. Hal disclosed that the franchise upgraded the clubhouse facilities earlier this off-season with some high-technology facilities addition.
Hal Steinbrenner said during the major league owner meeting that the Yankees brought a lot of new and high-tech stuff to the clubhouse this year. Some of those additional facilities are beyond his understanding. However, the owner gained confidence after the players conveyed positive feedback on the facilities. “Maybe in some way, shape, or form, all that new technology is helping with the injury situation,” Steinbrenner said. Notably, the high-technology facilities present at the Yankee clubhouse include red light therapy, infrared saunas, and a hyperbaric chamber, amongst many others. These tools provide real-time data on players’ physical conditions. And it enables the medical and coaching staff to make informed decisions about training loads, recovery, and game readiness. It, indeed, has allowed the Yankees to adopt a more proactive approach to injury prevention.
Yankees Owner Under Fire Over Payroll Comments
Life is not perfect if you are New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner as the latter was recently caught at cross roads over a controversial claim. In an interview with YES Network, Hal claimed that the club’s $300 million payroll is unsustainable, and henceforth, the franchise will try to cut it down. They intend to adhere to luxury tax rule and save money on tax penalities.
However, MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal refused to buy Hal Steinbrenner’s plea. He challenged the Yankees owner to open his books and prove how a billion-dollar baseball franchise can find a $300 million payroll thing unsustainable. In fact, the franchise has always been known for spending big. And given that Juan Soto’s record free agency is on the cards, the comments are more confusing and concerning simultaneously.
