Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees ace pitcher, pitched nine shutout inning on Sunday to save the team from a series loss.

The New York Yankees nearly escaped their first series loss of the 2023 MLB season. After trailing 2-0 in the four-game series against the Minnesota Twins, the Yankees gathered themselves for the remaining two clashes. Domingo German and Gerrit Cole emerged as the heroes as they managed to hold off the runs in both games.

Gerrit Cole turned up for the series decider. Having started the season by setting a unique record for the Yankees, the ace had the responsibility to keep the Twins’ hitters silent. Cole, with his experience, delivered and saved the day for the Bombers, who remain the only team without a series defeat this season. Meanwhile, the skipper, Aaron Boone, was highly impressed with the pitcher and had some encouraging words to say.

New York Yankees ace pitcher Gerrit Cole dazzled in the series finale against the Minnesota Twins. He pitched nine shutout innings by striking out 10 Twins hitters. The ace’s current ERA stands at 0.95 in four starts. Moreover, this is Cole’s second scoreless outing of the season after the record-breaking one on the opening day. Meanwhile, the skipper, Aaron Boone, has become a fan of the starter. He said that people don’t understand Gerrit’s impact on the team and even termed him underrated.

Aaron Boone believes Gerrit Cole turns up year after year with minimal injury concerns and steps up for the team during crucial times. That’s a rare trait that you wouldn’t find in modern baseball. Hence, Boone believes that if the ace continues this run for another good number of seasons, he will surely induct in his name into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame one day. Boone added that Cole’s command over his variations and understanding of the game makes him a special player. Lastly, the skipper even predicted that Cole might win this year’s Cy Young award and many more in the coming years.

Cole Is Yet To Give Up A Home Run This Season

Gerrit Cole has not conceded a home run this season. In four starts, he has had an 0.95 ERA with three runs and eight walks while striking out as many as 32 hitters. That’s an incredible start to the season for the Yankees’ ace pitcher. In the midst of a severe injury crisis in the camp, Cole has managed to keep up a positive mindset and has been delivering for the team whenever necessary.

If Gerrit Cole continues to pitch at this level, he can definitely help the New York Yankees clinch their most awaited world series title. After all, that’s the ultimate goal. Regardless, for now, the Yankees will be happy to have Cole anchoring their rotation. He remains one of the best pitchers in the game and gives the team, the New York Yankees, a chance to win every time he takes the mound.
