Yankees Looking To Fill These Three Positions In The Spring Training! Will They Accomplish The Target?

The Yankees had a strong off-season and tried to build a starry bullpen. They did successfully get hold of a few notable players. However, apart from them, the bullpen looks faded. Moreover, especially for a team looking to contest the World Series title, the roster needs a lot of strengthening. While the spring training is nearing, the Yanks have to pull up their socks.

The New York Yankees, despite spending a bucketload of money into the off-season, stare at multiple holes in the roster. While the pitchers and catchers will report on February 16, other position players are likely to join the bullpen on February 20. Exciting time ahead as the Yankees will hold multiple auditions for the three positions yet to be filled.

Yankees To Battle It Out For Three Vacant Positions In Spring Training

Oswald Peraza-Anthony Volpe

The New York Yankees have three undecided positions, the starting shortstop, a left fielder, and a fifth pitching starter. Firstly, the Yanks have three candidates for the shortstop position. Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Moreover, Oswald has some major league experience compared to the other two competitors. Hence, Peraza will have an edge.

Moving on next is the left field position. The Yankees made a grave mistake as they did not offer Andrew Benintendi an extension contract. Further, the club even failed to acquire a left-field candidate in the off-season. Hence, as Brian Cashman earlier confirmed, the club will make internal adjustments. For now, Aaron Hicks is the front-runner for the post. However, the Yanks front office will also give Oswaldo Cabrera and Estevan Florial a fair chance to battle it out in the spring training.

Frankie Montas

Furthermore, the Yankees retained Frankie Montas in a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. The fans questioned the move as Montas missed most of the 2022 season due to a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, the Bombers\’ worst fears have come true as Montas\’ shoulder injury has resurfaced, and the pitcher will sit out for the initial one month. That leaves a vacant spot in the starting pitching rotation. Domingo Germán and Clarke Schmidt are the other two contenders in the bullpen.

Yanks Still Trying To Poach A Left Fielder In the Market

Jurickson Profar, David Peralta, Bryan Reynolds

While the spring training might just be around the corner, the opening day is still more than a month away. Hence, the Yankees are making final efforts to end their left-field woes. Further, Jurickson Profar remains the only suitable candidate for the Bombers in the free agency market. So far, the Yanks have failed in negotiation as Profar refused to budge on his payroll expectations.

On the other hand, the Yankees are also holding talks with Pittsburgh Pirates. Bryan Reynolds wants to opt out of his current contract with the Pirates. Hence, the club is looking out for takers. However, when the Yanks approached the Pirates, they were put off by unreasonable demands. Thus, that trade has been stalled for now.
