Yankees Likely To Trade These Two Top Shortstop Prospects, Reveals MLB Insider

The New York Yankees have a large number of issues to sort out before the opening day. From finding a left fielder to a fifth starter, the Yanks have a lot on their plate and are running out of time. The left field woes stayed the whole off-season, and the Yanks were unable to find a concrete solution. On the other hand, Frankie Montas\’ injury has added another misery to the Yanks.

However, apart from the above-mentioned woes, the Yankees are facing another pressing issue. The Bombers do not have a designated starting shortstop for the 2023 MLB season. On top of that, the Yanks have a whole farm to choose from. Further, the Yanks front office stated the club will hold an audition in the spring training and will determine the candidate accordingly.

Are Gleyber Torres And Isiah Kiner-Falefa On The Card For A Trade?

The New York Yankees must determine their starting shortstop before the opening day. Despite having a bullpen filled with shortstops, none of them have been able to create an impact in the past few years. Moreover, the Yankees gave Isiah, Torress, DJ, and Peraza a good amount of chances, but all of them failed to cement their positions. Hence, the Yanks have already started looking beyond the bullpen for options.

Meanwhile, the Yankees signed Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres in one-year extension contracts during the off-season. However, an MLB insider has now claimed that the Bombers could end up trading the Isiah-Torres duo. Jon Heyman further added the duo is already on the block for the trade, and the Yanks are awaiting the right trade. If the Yankees get a good trade offer for an outfielder, these two shortstops might have to move out through the exit doors.

Anthony Volpe And Oswald Peraza Leading The Shortstop Position For The Yankees

Oswald Peraza-Anthony Volpe

The New York Yankees have top shortstop prospects in Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza. While Volpe ranked first among MLB\’s top shortstop prospects, Peraza impressed everyone during his small stint in the 2022 season. Hence, both prospects will battle it out in the spring training to claim the starting shortstop position. According to critics, Oswald Peraza could be the Yanks\’ first choice due to his major league experience. However, Anthony Volpe is making a good case for himself after repeatedly getting ranked as a top prospect.

Hence, the Yanks have a healthy headache on the shortstop front. But the other pressing issue is going to give the front office sleepless nights. Meanwhile, the focus now shifts to spring training which will commence at the end of this month. Post the spring training, the opening day of the 2023 MLB season will begin in late March.
