The New York Yankees have been through a lot of injuries in the last few years. They still can’t forget what happened last year. It was the worst season for the franchise in the last 30 years. They finished with a terrible 82-80 record. Moreover, they finished fourth in the American League East division. They were able to prevent a bottom-place finish barely. On top of that, the batting average of the Bronx Bombers was the second-worst in the league in 2023. The only team who had it even worse than them was the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics.

It could have been a better season for the Yankees if they could avoid injuries to key players like Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo. Moreover, the captain suffered a toe injury that turned into a torn ligament. He had to miss 35 games on the trot. On the other hand, the first baseman sustained a concussion after a collision. Later, he missed a lot of games due to post-concussion syndrome. Nonetheless, Rizzo started the 2024 regular season looking fitter than ever. Lately, in a series against the Boston Red Sox, he suffered another collision.

On Sunday night, Anthony Rizzo had to leave in the seventh inning after his collision with Brennan Bernardino, a Red Sox pitcher. At first, the pitcher tried to execute the play well, but then the collision with the veteran first baseman resulted in a scary injury. Rizzo fell hard on his right arm. The first baseman of the Boston Red Sox, Dominic Smith, threw to the pitcher Bernardino, who came over to cover. Meanwhile, the first baseman of the Yankees tried to charge down the line. But Smith’s throw was a bit wide. As a result, the Red Sox pitcher collided with Rizzo. Eventually, the veteran First baseman of the NY side tumbled to the field in foul territory. But prior to that, he managed to cross the bag safely.

After falling hard on his right arm, he immediately started to roll on the ground, grabbing his hand or wrist area. Later, as per Associated Press, the Yankees announced Anthony Rizzo suffered an injury to his right lower arm. Eventually, the pinch runner Oswaldo Cabrera replaced Rizzo. In the post-game interview, the team captain and manager both tried to be positive, saying the first baseman should be fine. Aaron Judge mentioned that Rizzo is tough. Even though he doesn’t really know what’s going on, Judge believes “He will be good.”

Aaron Boone mentioned in the post-game interview, “The initial imaging was negative.” This imaging is a low grade X-Ray. Nonetheless, the skipper mentioned that Anthony Rizzo is in pain in his lower arm “In a number of places.” On Monday, the first baseman will get a lot of tests. Then, they can be sure of what they are dealing with here.

Moreover, Boone said when he saw Rizzo not getting up right away, he could tell that the slugger was in a lot of pain. Hence, there are now a lot of concerns over Rizzo. As Rizzo was in some pain, there were certain movements, really “Little.” Boone said he wanted to get the first baseman out of there right away. Eventually, the Boston Red Sox won 9-3. In that game, the Red Sox set a new franchise record with nine stolen bases.
