Good news for New York Yankee fan base as Frankie Montas underwent surgery earlier today, and the results are promising.

New York Yankees will begin their 2023 MLB campaign in spring training against the Phillies on February 25. Ahead of the game, the bullpen assembled for pre-training and workout sessions at the Yanks base camp in Tampa, Florida. However, the one aspect the Yankees so badly wanted to let go off, have slowly started to cripple back in.

   

Yes, you guessed it right, it’s the injury list. Last season, the Bombers’ entire postseason campaign was marred with injuries. Multiple key starters on the roster went down, eventually leading to the team’s ouster in ALCS. Moreover, the upcoming season looks no different, as injuries have started to take over the Yanks camp even before the commencement of the regular season.

Frankie Montas’ Surgery Successful, Could Make A Comeback Mid-Season

Earlier in January, the New York Yankees front office confirmed the rumors of Frankie Montas’ shoulder injury resurfacing. Montas, the Yanks’ starting pitcher, missed out 2022 season due to a shoulder niggle. Further, ahead of the upcoming regular season, Montas’ injury resurfaced and ruled him out for the initial month of the season before, and he decided to opt for surgery. Subsequently, the surgery was scheduled for 21st February, and now we have the latest update on the same.

Frankie Montas’ shoulder surgery has been successfully completed. As per the latest updates, the pitcher’s rotator cuff had no issues. Hence, his recovery would need less time than previously anticipated. After the surgery, Montas will refrain from participating in any baseball activities for at least 12 weeks. Further, he would move into rehabilitation and undergo recovery for another 12 good weeks. Hence, the pitcher could make a comeback for the Yankees on or after the month of August, as per future assessments.

Ben Rortvedt To Go Under The Knife After Shoulder Discomfort During Spring Training

The New York Yankees’ happiness post Frankie Montas’ injury update did not last too long. We have another injury news coming in from the Bombers’ camp. The Yankees’ key catcher, Ben Rortvedt, will have to go under the knife after experiencing discomfort in his left shoulder. Ben arrived fully healthy for the spring training sessions. However, mid-way through the sessions, he started feeling some kind of discomfort. After being checked, it was revealed that his left shoulder had a circulation problem, which would require surgery.

Furthermore, the surgery took place on Wednesday, and Ben will have to abstain from any baseball-related activities for one entire month. After the initial month, assessments will take place, and a final return date will be decided. For the moment, Ben remains ruled out indefinitely. Interstingly, Ben missed out on the first half of the previous season due to a right oblique strain and only returned after July. Hence, the latest injury update does not look promising at all.
