Many people had written off Matt Carpenter before he had a redemption arc in the last season. During his brief time with the Yankees, the fanbase quickly fell in love with the 12-season MLB veteran. However, in a heartbreak moment for the Bombers, the star has signed a deal with San Diego Padres.

San Padres Sign Matt Carpenter!

The Yankees fanbase is like a child in a candy store. They just can\’t help but want all the good players to be playing in the Pinstripe Blues. One such name that the fans were hoping to sign a contract with the Yankees is Carpenter. But with big hopes comes equally big disappointment. And this is exactly what happened to the Yankees supporters when Matt struck a deal with the San Diego Padres.

As reported by MLB.com, the Sand Diego Padres have signed Matt Carpenter for a one-year deal. Carpenter is anticipated to play first base, left field, right field, designated hitter, and maybe as a backup at second and third base. Last year, the 37-year-old had a breakout season with the New York Yankees, hitting 15 home runs and driving in 37 runs in just 47 games. Additionally, the three-time All-Star produced a 1.138 OPS and hit.305. It was a startling reversal for Carpenter, who had played 180 games for the St. Louis Cardinals throughout the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In the seasons, he hit just .176 (.605 OPS) with seven big ones and 45 RBI.

The Padres made a fantastic choice by signing Carpenter. He has 15 home runs and a remarkable batting average of.305 in 2022. He joins a squad aiming to reach the championship level with his expertise and three All-Star selections. Matt will be a great addition to the Padres because of his adaptable skill set and capacity to play different positions.

Due to injuries, Matt Carpenter only appeared in 47 games during his one season with the New York Yankees. Even with limited sample size, he made an impression both on and off the field. Over the course of the season, he received several compliments for his clubhouse presence. Several reports claimed that the 37-year-old Carpenter and the Yankees discussed a potential reunion. There was no obvious position on the roster, though, with Giancarlo Stanton playing DH and Anthony Rizzo playing first base.

The Padres hiring Carpenter has unsurprisingly upset New York Yankees supporters. On the other side, San Diego Padres\’ supporters were ecstatic with this pickup. As their star power continues to rise, it has been a thrilling period for their franchise. Carpenter still contributes significantly to Juan Soto and Xander Bogaerts\’ teams, even if he isn\’t on the same level as them.
