Why Was Manchester Test Between India and England Canceled? Everything To Know

The fifth and the final test match between India and England was canceled after a case of Covid-19 was found in the camp of India and made them unable to field a team for their final ICC World Test Championship match against England. 

The news came out on Friday, September 10, morning when the final match at the Old Trafford stadium in Manchester was about to begin. Both ECB and BCCI took a mutual decision to cancel the match and announced it on the day of the match itself.

   

The main reason was said to be Indian camp had a fear that the positive cases might increase even further in their camp, and hence they were regrettably unable to field the team. Both the cricket boards offered their apologies to the fans who were eagerly waiting to see the final test match between India and England. 

India was leading the five-match test series by 2-1. They registered an incredible win in the fourth test by 157 runs. The visitors only need to draw the final match to win the series, whereas England needs to win the final match to draw the series. 

Will The Final Test Between India and England Ever Happen? 

The chances are great that the fans will get to see this fifth and the final test match between India and England in the near future. BCCI has a solid relationship with ECB, and at present, both the boards are working to find a window so that they reschedule the final test match. They even discussed several ways to continue the series. But in the end, they mutually decided to call off the last match.

BCCI released a statement in which they cleared that the well-being and safety of the players are their first priority, and they won\’t make any compromise with it. The Board of Contro for Cricket in India has also offered the rescheduling of the fifth test match between India & England. 

Several legends even questioned this decision and blamed IPL for it. Now, the speculation is that the final test match between India & England will take place in 2022 when India visits England again.
