Hungary GP Podium

McLaren had an exquisite race on a scorching day in Hungary. The Papaya party clinched the GP title, as both their drivers bagged a 1-2 finish. Surprisingly, this was the first instance since 2012 that a McLaren duo secured P1 and P2 spots. Hence, it was certainly a historic day for the Woking-based outfit.

On the other hand, Mercedes had a mixed outing. While Lewis Hamilton stood on the podium, George Russell failed to enter the top five. However, after the race, Hamilton and Lando Norris shared an awkward moment in the cooldown room. The playful exchange quickly went viral on social media, with both drivers responding swiftly and humorously to each other.

Lewis Hamilton-Lando Norris Share An Awkward Moment During The Post-Race Interaction

After the Hungary GP, Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton finished in the top three positions. They met in the cooldown room. During this time, Norris and Hamilton engaged in a brief conversation. Hamilton started by acknowledging the impressive speed of the McLaren cars, expressing his amazement at how fast they were. However, Norris responded by referencing Hamilton’s past success, noting that Hamilton had a fast car seven years ago.

Further, Hamilton, slightly surprised by the comment, asked if Norris was present seven years ago, pointing out that it was a long time.   Norris, misunderstanding Hamilton’s intention, remarked that Hamilton had a quick car in the past, but now it was McLaren’s turn. To clear up the confusion, the Mercedes starlet explained that he was actually complimenting the McLaren car, not complaining.

Ultimately, Norris’s comment referred to the period when Mercedes was dominant at the Hungaroring seven years prior. Interestingly, despite Mercedes’ general dominance, it was Ferrari that secured a 1-2 finish at the Hungaroring that year with Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. This exchange highlighted a mix of mutual respect and a bit of historical reflection between the two drivers.

He admitted that it was a difficult moment, as fighting for a win is incredibly important to both him and Piastri. Norris expressed empathy by stating that he tried to put himself in Piastri’s shoes to understand the situation better.
