Aaron Judge is the biggest hope of the New York Yankees, who can lead them to the World Series. However, he has been part of the NY side since 2017, but never did he manage to carry the team to the “Big Dance.” This iconic MLB team has not been to the World Series since 2009. That was the last time they had become the World Champions. This year, fans had more expectations because a “Generational Talent” like Juan Soto joined the team for a one-year deal. Anyway, the Judge-Soto duo had a pretty good start this ongoing season. Albeit, Aaron Judge was struggling only in the first month of the 2024 regular season.

Since May, he had been showing glimpses of the 2022 MVP season. That’s the reason why the Bronx Bombers managed to dominate the American League East division for the most part of the first half this season. It was all thanks to the Judge-Soto duo as well as due credit goes to the starting pitchers. However, since June 13, the winning momentum ended for the Bombers. Now, almost at the end of July, the Yankees are still unable to get out of the slump. But they are planning to make smart moves depending on the analytics ahead of the July 30 MLB Trade Deadline.

What Does Aaron Judge Think About MLB’s Latest Analytics Obsession?

During his recent podcast interview with Casa De Klub, the Yankees captain mentioned that the analytics and the wide array of metrics have a huge impact on analyzing every aspect of the game. However, the 2022 AL MVP said that there is also a need for going back to the classic good old stats like RBIs and batting average of course. The California Native feels the traditional statistics can reveal the threat level of a player, which helps with the pitching strategies. Aaron Judge noted, “We sure do our homework, we study. Nonetheless, we are still ball players, not analysts.”

He said it is not their job to study certain numbers and go, “How does this turn into this?” Moreover, the Yankees superstar mentioned that all they need to do is hit a round baseball with a round bat. That’s the job Judge feels the ballplayers need to focus on. On top of that, Aaron Judge feels it is essential to see how they value the analytics and then use them. Perhaps, Judge believes, “We need to look at them again.” He also said that there might just be confusion about looking at the right numbers and the wrong ones.

At present, the MLB July 30 Trade Deadline is around the corner. All teams are busy looking at the changes they need to make on their roster. Clearly, the Yankees need some good upgrades to get out of their current slump. It has been going on for a long time. Since June 13, the NY side went 6-16 in their next 22 games. Later, in July, they started 4-8 until the Midsummer Classic. After the All-Star break, they have again been in a slump. They have been 2-4.

Recently, Aaron Judge said he was willing to talk to the owner, Hal Steinbrenner, and the GM, Brian Cashman, about the possible changes they can make at Deadline. But the Yankees captain also said that there will be major improvements happening if the young players start progressing and adapting to the demands of the big league.
