The New York Yankees had been enjoying a great start to the 2024 season. But there have been a few games when the key players have not delivered for the team. For instance, the slow start of Aaron Judge was looking like a bit of a problem for the team. However, the captain is gradually coming back to his groove. That’s great news for the fans in the Bronx. Moreover, the bullpen has been doing a great job so far. Most importantly, the absence of the ace pitcher Gerrit Cole has not affected the team’s performance too badly yet.

But it is a long tournament, and things can change dramatically. Nevertheless, after the first month of the 2024 regular season, the Yankees are in good spot and they have been firing from all cylinders. However, in the last game against the Houston Astros, the NY side lost narrowly. It was mainly the fault of the starting pitcher, Marcus Stroman, who gave away a lot of runs in the first inning. Later, Marcus accepted the blame as well.

On Thursday, the Yankees lost to the Houston Astros 4-3. They had a pretty good day at the offense but not at the defense. The power-hitting trio of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Juan Soto went deeper, slugging long home runs. However, that was not enough because they just gave away too many runs in the first innings. Lately, Marcus Stroman has been struggling to get a clean inning. It was very apparent on Thursday. Overall, Stroman pitched 5.2 innings. However, the starter allowed three runs in the first inning. That really put the Bronx Bombers in the hole. Despite the offense’s best efforts, it was not possible for them to climb out of that hole. In the post-game interview, Marcus Stroman told the media that he faced a lot of adversity in there for sure.

Moreover, he said that he wasn’t good enough early on in the game. The starting pitcher knows his fault that he put his team “In a little bit of a hole.” Moreover, Stroman said he needs to get much better. And he just can’t allow three runs in the first anymore. He believes that he just doesn’t give his team a chance when he allows so many runs. Moreover, Marcus Stroman cited a “Little mechanical adjustment” that he made to help with his location as a reason why he could not execute some of those pitches. Finally, the starter said the Astros’ hitters capitalized on the couple of pitches that didn’t go as per his plans. And at the end of the day, “It’s baseball.”

In the post-game interview, Aaron Boone told the media that the first inning was really “Tough” for them. Nevertheless, the skipper is happy with the team as they made a solid effort to bounce back. Moreover, Boone noted that his team kept battling through.

Eventually, the Yankees got out of a big jam. Due to the solid effort of the offense, the Yankees gave themselves a chance. Despite the Bronx Bombers losing on Thursday, they must be happy with a series win against the Houston side. Now, they head to Tampa Bay after enjoying a 5-1 homestand.
