The New York Yankees had been incredible with their display of offensive as well as defensive power this year. Clearly, the addition of Juan Soto has worked miracles for the 27-time World Series champions. However, this team has not been to the “Big Dance” since 2009. It has been a long time since this team has made the fans in the Bronx feel like World Champions. However, this year, it looks like the time has come for the wait to be finally over. Perhaps the duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto will end the title drought for the NY side. But they are not alone in the batting order.

There have been quite a few good performances, like Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera, who started the 2024 regular season with a bang. Then, the DH Giancarlo Stanton, who got slimmer and fitter in the offseason, seems to be on song with the bat in hand. Moreover, Alex Verdugo has been another great addition for the Bronx Bombers in the offseason. Lately, though, there has been another hitter who caught the fan’s attention, he is Austin Wells.

Austin Wells Impressed The Yankees Faithful With His Home Run

In Game 2 playing against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, Austin Wells impressed everybody with his power display, specifically in the fourth inning. Since April, he had not blasted a homer. But on Tuesday, Wells hit a three-run home run off Brady Singer. According to Yanks Go Yard, it might not sound all that impressive on the surface, but the slugger turned on the pitch in a count of 0-2. Moreover, it looked like he even got jammed. On top of that, the Austin Wells homer even fooled the cameras of YES Network. Somehow, the ball even travelled a distance of 417 feet. Singer pitched a 92 MPH sinker.

But it is still amazing to notice how Austin Wells got the barrel on that inside of the sinker and even overpowered the pitcher. The beat writers of Yanks Go Yard believes that is exactly the reason why the slugger keeps getting reps constantly. Wells first drew attention when MLB drafted him out of Arizona. He had the reputation of accelerating his bat to readiness in the big league quicker than most of the other players of his generation. Clearly, he has the tools and the talent to shine. But now he needs the results to start coming around for him. Wells is lucky because the Yankees have been really good this year. Hence, he can afford the proper time to develop.

NY Side Underused Wells’ Underperforming Bat Several Times This Season

Austin Wells will need to work out the kinks. Meanwhile, the Yankees did not hurt themselves after leaving the slugger several times at the bottom of the rotation. They did it multiple times per week this regular season. Great news for the Bronx Bombers is that their starting pitcher, Carlos Rodon, seemed to rediscover himself on Monday in Kansas City.

Perhaps Austin Wells got what he needed on Tuesday night. Now, the fans will hope to see him grow that consistency with power and production. With his three-run home run in the fourth inning, he helped the Yankees get to 6-0 against the Royals. He even paved the way for Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton to hit a couple of monster home runs to make it 10-0.
