The New York Yankees needed someone like Juan Soto to join their offense and bolster it. His batting style is perfect for the Yankee Stadium. Moreover, he is enjoying great chemistry with the captain, Aaron Judge. Together, they can become one of the greatest duos of the franchise. And talking about the hitting duos of the 27-time World Series champions, there have been some great examples over the years. Moreover, the couple of duos that standout for the Bronx Bombers are Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig and Roger Maris-Mickey Mantle. This year, though, the Judge-Soto duo can join that elite group if they both end up hitting 40 or more home runs each.
However, the fans wonder if they will see the Judge-Soto duo only for this year. The Dominican superstar will become a free agent after the ongoing season. He will expect to sign a massive contract close to $500 million for a 10-year deal or even bigger than that. However, the Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner mentioned that their payroll isn’t sustainable. Perhaps it means they have to let Juan Soto go elsewhere ahead of the next season. What do the rivals think about Soto’s deal?
It Won’t Be Easy For The Yankees Rivals To Take Juan Soto Away
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, some general managers are starting to wonder if Juan Soto will want to leave the Yankees after this season. However, he added that there will be outside interests for the Dominican superstar for sure. Some potential suitors are the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Boston Red Sox for Soto as per Heyman. But one GM asked Heyman, “Isn’t he going to stay in the Bronx?” Moreover, the Post reporter said that the Yankees believe they have a pretty good chance to re-sign Juan Soto if the bidding gets close. Now, the question will be always on the budget and payroll of the NY side.
They already have signed two big long term contracts – Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. However, as things stand, it is not ideal to let Soto go elsewhere. Clearly, the Dominican slugger has had a huge impact on the team’s offence ever since he joined them. Now, he is a top favourite to win the American League Most Valued Player award this year. However, Aaron Judge is leading that MVP poll at present as he leads the list of Most Homers so far this season. If things go as planned, the Judge-Soto duo can help the Yankees win this year’s World Series.
Aaron Judge Continues To Prove Why He’s A Great Captain
Heyman said the Yankees were understandably upset when Albert Suarez’s pitch drilled in Judge’s hand. It could break his wrist and he would have a similar 2018 like injury. That would not have been good for the team and the captain himself. Moreover, the MLB insider said when Aaron Judge mentioned he votes for Soto in the MVP poll, he proved again why people regard him as a great captain.
Heyman noted, “That was a typical Judge thing.” Judge mentioned Soto always gets on base, which makes it easier for him when he gets on the plate. Clearly, the chemistry between the two superstar sluggers is working really well.
