The New York Yankees had a great start to the current ongoing season. It seemed like their roster had a pretty good balance. As a result, they did not look worried about the roster moves ahead of the July 30 Trade Deadline. The NY side seemed to dominate the American League East division in the first couple of months of the season. However, around mid-June, things started to fall apart a bit. They hit a rough patch, and since June 13, the Bronx Bombers had a run where they went 6-16. Later, in July, the 27-time World Series champions went 4-8.

Hence, with another bad start, their rough patch continued until the Midsummer Classic. After the All-Star break, they went 2-5, while they lost the Subway Series again to their crosstown rivals. But then, gradually, they seem to turn things back in winning ways. Currently, the Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles have the same record at the top of the AL East. However, to improve their chances for the playoffs, the Bronx Bombers can make a few significant roster moves.

Yankees Can Make A Few Changes To Raise Their Playoff Hopes

The New York Yankees need to have a couple of more good months to ensure their place in the playoffs. Then, they must be ready to prepare for going deep into the postseason. However, Brian Cashman kind of disappointed the fans in the Bronx because he didn’t make many significant moves ahead of the July 30 Trade Deadline. The Pinstripes did land Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins and also signed an outfielder turned pitcher, Brett Phillips. They signed the former outfielder to Single-A Tampa. But the Yankees can still make more roster moves. For instance, signing Rich Hill might be a good move. He’s a free agent. Moreover, to prepare for the heated pennant race, the NY side can benefit from landing the veteran hurler. There might come a point when the Yankees will have to look to preserve Luis Gil’s arm. That’s when Hill’s experience might come in handy.

Secondly, the NY side can surely call up superstar outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez now. Previously, fans compared him to Mickey Mantle and Bo Jackson. He is coming off Tommy John surgery and has spent quite some time in the minor league since then. Aaron Boone’s side can really benefit from Jasson’s offensive and defensive skills. Thirdly, the Yankees can trade for Tim Locastro. The trade deadline has passed, but the experienced third baseman is on a Triple-A roster at present. Since he is not on a major league roster, he can move to another franchise’s farm system. With Locastro, Boone will have more infield depth on the roster.

Extending Juan Soto’s Contract Might Be A Bonus

For a long time, the Yankees Faithful has been wondering if the franchise will manage to extend Juan Soto. He will be the biggest free agent next offseason. Moreover, Scott Boras, the super agent of Soto, is famous for dragging his players all the way to free agency to test their command in the market. However, there can be exceptions to that habit as Jose Altuve, the star infielder, also a client of Boras, signed an extension with the Houston Astros.

He didn’t wait to test his value on the open market. Moreover, if Juan Soto feels comfortable at the Bronx, and the Yankees offer him an extension that’s hard to refuse, he can just press his agent to accept the offer. Soto’s one of the best hitters in baseball and, most importantly, seems to be a perfect fit alongside Aaron Judge.
