The New York Yankees Put Jonathan Loaisiga & Giancarlo Stanton On The Injured List!

Yankees

The New York Yankees have played outstandingly during the first couple of months of the 2022 season. The Bombers have put up a whopping 31-13 win-loss record, becoming the most successful team in the tournament so far. However, the one major injury that the Yankees\’ side suffered this year was during the spring training to alternate catcher Ben Rortvedt. Jose Trevino quickly replaced the 24-year-old even before the start of the season. The second injury concern that the Pinstripers had was in mid-May to fourth outfielder Tim Locastro, who was sidelined due to a lat injury.

However, the momentum has shifted a little bit from the Yankees in the past week. The franchise lost their top pitcher Luis Gil who will undergo a Tommy John surgery. Chad Green was also taken off the bench after a UCL tear. Meanwhile, Josh Donaldson, Joey Gallo, and Kyle Higashioka have all been placed on the COVID-IL list.

Giancarlo Stanton

The list continues as Aroldis Chapman was handed a 15-day IL due to Achilles injury. And DJ LaMahieu was given a cortisone shot after a left wrist soreness. Now, the Yankees squad\’s health continued to degrade as two more players, Giancarlo Stanton and Jonathan Loaisiga, were also placed on the injury list on Wednesday.

Loaisiga Suffers Shoulder Inflammation While Giancarlo Has A Right Calf Strain

Stanton left Tuesday\’s game against the Orioles with calf soreness. The team stayed patient until the MRI results to work on any replacements. However, the Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed on Wednesday that Giancarlo has an ankle inflammation and could return back to the squad after ten days. Stanton missed 13 games in May last year due to a quad strain. But, he is hoping to return in a couple of weeks when his ankle recovers.

Jonathan Loaisiga

Meanwhile, Loaisiga\’s brilliant 2022 has been hindered by right shoulder inflammation. In 18 games, Jonathan has a 7.02 ERA and 5.11 FIP, which has been a major improvement from 2021. Last year, he struggled with a 14.7% walk rate and 1.6 HR/9. Loaisiga\’s shoulder problems are not new. He suffered from a rotator cuff strain towards the end of 2021. He also missed games in 2018 & 2019 due to shoulder injuries. Although the Yankees pitcher is expected to return in 15 days. Hopefully, the two crucial players will return soon, and the Yankees will be able to ward off losses in their absence.
