Stephen Curry has been part of the Golden State Warriors for over 15 years. Before 2009, the Dubs did not look like a championship-worthy team. However, it is not like they had never won a title before. The GSW was a three-time NBA champion in the past. Moreover, the last time they had won a title in the 20th Century was back in 1975. However, in the early 21st Century, the team representing the Bay Area was looking like one of the bottom feeders at the Western Conference. Hence, even when the skinny kid from Akron, Ohio, joined the franchise, fans, and experts did not expect a lot. However, Curry was a rising talent and had a good rookie season.
Moreover, he finished second for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award behind Tyreke Evans. Later, he had to wait a while for the Warriors to build a team around him that could make the playoffs. In 2011, Klay Thompson joined the Dubs, then they added Draymond Green in 2012. Finally, Steph Curry had a couple of All-Star level players around him that helped him lead the Warriors to four NBA Championships in a span of eight years. However, in 2024, the Dubs franchise failed to add all-star-level players to the roster in the offseason.
Stephen A Smith Slams Warriors For Failing To Get Help Around Stephen Curry
Recently, the Warriors signed the greatest shooter for a contract extension of one year worth $62.6 million, as per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. This extension will see the three-point King stay part of the Golden State through the 2026-2027 season. He is 36 years old right now. Moreover, Curry’s extension will calm a lot of nerves in the Dub Nation. After Klay Thompson left the Bay Area to join the Dallas Mavericks, the franchise has been looking for a suitable replacement. It would always be hard to replace the ‘Splash Brother’ of Steph Curry. Moreover, in the ongoing offseason, the Dubs have not found one yet. Regarding this, ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith mentioned during the latest episode of ‘First Take,’ “How come Warriors did not get any additional help for Stephen Curry?”
The ESPN analyst said that he is still looking at the Dubs organization and “Specifically” at Steve Kerr. Moreover, Smith believes Curry is still in his prime, even at 36. He asked, “Why can’t we get added help for the greatest shooter of the game who’s still good for 25 a game, 40% shooting-plus from beyond the arc?” Most importantly, Smith calls Curry one of the nicest men on the planet. Players and organization love and revere him. Moreover, Smith said, “The Bay Area has deified him. Then, why can’t Warriors get someone worth noting to play alongside this brother?” The analyst said people should not clamor to do so.
Who Can The Dubs Rely On Now?
Stephen Curry was averaging 26.4 points per game and was shooting 40.8 percent from the three-point range in the 2023-2024 season. He tried his best to help the team make the playoffs. But they lost in the play-in round against the Sacramento Kings as they were the 10th seed last season in the Western Conference. Then, Curry went on to have a great Olympic season, winning a Gold medal. On the other hand, the Warriors have Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton as new additions this offseason.
They are solid players but not all-star types like Klay Thompson. Other than that, Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Moses Moody are the Dubs’ new, improved young quartet. Then, they have the old names, like Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, and Andrew Wiggins. They are reliable, but the Warriors might trade Wiggins soon.
