The New York Yankees were jolted with one of the scariest injury setbacks last week when veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo was diagnosed with an arm fracture. Rizzo collided with a Boston Red Sox reliever during an away series and rolled thrice on the ground before being removed from the game.
Anthony Rizzo went through additional scans upon landing in New York and was diagnosed with an arm fracture. Subsequently, he was placed on IL and is expected to miss upto 8 weeks. That being said, with the postseason aspirations in jeopardy, the Yanks are linked to a recently released Red Sox veteran infielder.
Robert Murray Expects Yankees To Go After Garrett Cooper
The New York Yankees are expected to show interest in former All-Star first baseman Garrett Cooper as a potential replacement for Anthony Rizzo. With Rizzo sidelined due to an arm fracture and inconsistent performance, the Bombers are exploring options to bolster their lineup and add a reliable bat to their roster. That being said, Fansided’s Robert Murray named Yanks a realistic landing spot Cooper. Garrett Cooper started the season with the Chicago Cubs and recorded .270/.341/.432 slash line with one home run and six RBI in 12 games. He was later moved to the Boston Red Sox, where he slashed .171/.227/.229 with a .455 OPS, zero home runs, and five RBIs in 24 games. That being said, Garrett Cooper was recently released by the Red Sox and is a free agent.
Garrett Cooper, a former All-Star, has caught the New York Yankees’ attention due to his solid offensive track record and versatility. Cooper, who spent a significant part of his career with the Miami Marlins, has demonstrated the ability to hit for average and power. His career batting average of .274 and on-base percentage of .344 reflect his capability to get on base and drive in runs. Cooper’s versatility also extends to his defensive skills. Primarily a first baseman, he has experience playing in the outfield and can serve as a designated hitter. This flexibility would provide the Bronx Bombers with valuable options for lineup construction and defensive alignments. Hence, adding Cooper to the roster could address several pressing needs for the New York-based outfit. Overall, Cooper’s proven track record as a reliable hitter and his defensive versatility make him an attractive option to replace Anthony Rizzo.
