The New York Yankees touched down back home to the Bronx after a disappointing series loss against the low-ranked Washington Nationals. Despite taking away game one, the Bombers’ inferior standards and abysmal offensive performance led to a 2-1 series loss, which further reduced the team’s lead in the AL-East division.

That being said, after a much-needed rest day, the New York Yankees had a terrific outing against the St.Louis Cardinals on Friday. The star of the 6-3 victory was starting pitcher Marcus Stroman and also a rookie catcher who is lately thriving in the challenging role of cleanup hitter.

Austin Wells, the New York Yankees’ rookie sensation, delivered a performance to remember as he led his team to a stellar victory with his first-ever multi-homer game. On Friday, Juan Soto added the first runs on the board with a double RBI. Wells carried forward the momentum with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Just three innings later, Wells connected again, this time sending a fastball deep into the left-field bleachers to bring up his first-ever multi-homer game of his professional career. That being said, being placed in the cleanup spot is a clear vote of confidence from the Yanks’ coaching staff, and Wells did not disappoint. Hitting behind legends of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto is no child’s play, and the rookie catcher very well understands his responsibilities.

“I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m accepting it and embracing the challenge,” Austin Wells said about his transition to clean up spot. Meanwhile, Wells’ first multi-homer game is the latest milestone in what has been a promising start to his MLB career. Since being called up, he has consistently displayed maturity beyond his years, both offensively and defensively. His ability to adjust quickly to major league pitching has earned him praise from teammates, coaches, and fans alike. He even earned an everyday starting position behind the plate over his veteran teammate Jose Trevino. Moreover, this standout performance from Austin Wells could not have come at a better time for the Yankees, who are making a late-season push for the playoffs. His emergence adds depth to the lineup, offering more protection for Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.

Marcus Stroman Extends Resurgence After Forced Day Off

To curb Marcus Stroman’s struggles, the New York Yankees pushed back his scheduled start earlier this month. Manager Aaron Boone advised him to work on his mechanics and return with renewed energy and motivation. Meanwhile, Stroman used the rest period as a sign of encouragement and came out all guns blazing. He is 3-0 with a 2.35 ERA in his past four starts.

In their most recent outing against the St.Louis Cardinals, Marcus Stroman pitched seven innings and allowed 2 runs on 9 hits without allowing a walk. His season ERA is now lowered to 3.81. “When my sinker is good, I can kind of pitch off of that. That’s my bread and butter,” said Stroman on Friday after his success against the Cardinals.
