With another 9-7 loss to Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees continue to slip in the playoff race with a 60-45 record in AL-East. The roster simply cannot find a way to break free off the atrocious slump which is a sign of profound concern for the organization leadership.
Hence, at the upcoming August 1 trade deadline, the New York Yankees will definitely eye at least a couple of upgrades. That being said, given the team’s dire needs, Andy Martino of SNY recently disclosed some areas of concern in Yankee roster and what exactly will be the front office’s plans.
Yankees To Bring Multiple Upgrades At Trade Deadline
In an interesting revelation, Andy Martino of SNY disclosed that the New York Yankees front office is actively seeking upgrades at third base, bullpen, and starting rotation. The team’s pursuit of a third baseman is driven by the need for consistent production and defensive stability. With current options like DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera struggling with injuries and inconsistency, the club is exploring the market for a reliable hitter who can also provide solid defense. Potential targets include Ryan McMahon, Matt Chapman, and second baseman Jonathan India. On the other hand, in the bullpen, the Bombers are looking to add depth and experience. Despite having a strong relief corps, injuries and overuse have exposed the pitchers’ shortcomings.
Hence, the New York Yankees are likely to target relievers with a track record of success in high-leverage situations, enhancing their ability to close out tight games and support their starting rotation. Lastly, starting pitching remains a critical area for improvement as well. While the team has a solid rotation led by ace Gerrit Cole, inconsistencies and injuries have highlighted the need for a dependable starter to provide stability. Tigers starter Jack Flaherty was linked as an ideal choice. However, for a trade to materialize, the Yankee front office will have to drop top prospects. Overall, the Yanks’ strategy at the trade deadline reflects their commitment to addressing immediate needs while remaining competitive in the playoff race. By targeting upgrades at third base, the bullpen, and starting pitching, they are positioning themselves to make a strong push for postseason success.
Jasson Dominguez Returns From IL After Oblique Strain Recovery
In an encouraging update, the New York Yankees Triple-A affiliated team reinstated outfielder Jasson Dominguez from IL. The kid was recovering from an oblique strain for the past four weeks. Earlier, Dominguez also struggled with Tommy John surgery. Interestingly, the Martian went 1-for-4 with two RBIs as the DH in the first game post-comeback at Triple-A.
However, the team is likely to play him as DH for the next couple of weeks and not put excess strain on his fragile fitness. For now, his major league promotion looks highly unlikely. Moreover with Giancarlo Stanton likely to get activated from IL next week after hamstring strain recovery, the New York Yankees won’t probably need any hitting reinforcements in the near future.
