The New York Yankees had a lot of expectations from Carlos Rodon for the last season. They signed the star pitcher last offseason. However, Rodon did not live up to the expectations of the Bronx Bombers. He started the 2023 season on the Injured List. In the end, Rodon finished with a disappointing season, as did the whole team. However, the NY side made a lot of significant changes over this winter. As a result, the team looks much better than how it was last year. They had a pretty weak outfield, but their biggest weakness was their offense.

That’s what they were focusing on to change. Moreover, the Yankees made a lot of crucial changes in the outfield. As a result, the NY side looks like the most improved outfield in terms of WAR. Moreover, the Yankees, with Juan Soto in the rotation alongside Aaron Judge, hope to make it to the postseason this year. Maybe even a little further than just the first round in the postseason. Lately, the ZiPS projection 2024 claims that the Yankees and Carlos Rodon will have a better season than last time.

What’s The ZiPS Projection Says Of The 2024 Yankees?

At FanGraphs, Dan Szymborski has come out with the Yankees 2024 ZiPS projections. It mainly said the Dominican superstar can expect to have a great debut season for the NY side. Additionally, the captain will hit as many as 40 home runs. More importantly, Carlos Rodon will produce a rebound year. But the new starting pitcher, Marcus Stroman, might take a little bit of a step back. As per the projections, Juan Soto will slash .275/.421/.516 along with hitting 33 home runs, 103 RBIs, 25 doubles, and score 101 runs along with 131 walks. This slugger’s base on ball numbers might even likely top the league. On the other hand, the projections see Aaron Judge hitting 40 home runs and a triple slashing of .271/.384/.575.

The projections indicate Giancarlo Stanton won’t have a great outing with 455 plate appearances in 2024 and hitting 25 home runs. In general, the ZiPS projects low numbers for starting pitchers and their total innings pitched. That did not change for the NY side, either. As per the projections, Carlos Rodon will pitch 114 innings and get back to form with 132 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA. The projections say the 2023 Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole will pitch 186 innings and post a 3.53 ERA and 201 strikeouts. Last season, Cole pitched for more innings (209).

As per the projections, Marcus Stroman will pitch over 138 innings and strike 110 batters out, posting a 4.04 ERA. On the other hand, from the bullpen, Clay Holmes will pitch around 61 innings, striking out 67 batters. ZiPS says he will allow 49 hits and post a 3.84 ERA.

On the other hand, Jonathan Loaisiga will post a 3.68 ERA and 46 strikeouts, allowing 46 hits over 51 innings. Last year, the rookie slugger Anthony Volpe was impressive in his offense. ZiPS projects Volpe slashing .224/.302/.404 with 19 home runs and 31 doubles.
