Yankees, Jazz Chisholm Jr

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a pretty good start as a third baseman for the New York Yankees this season. Previously, he was part of the Miami Marlins. But the NY side needed to bolster their offense ahead of the July 30 MLB Trade Deadline. That’s the reason why they signed the outfielder from the Marlins. Adding Jazz to the lineup looked like a pretty good move because of his impact on and off the field. He is one of those guys who brings a certain energy to the locker room. That helped the Yankees gain some momentum to get back on top of the American League East division.

However, the third baseman could only play 14 games wearing the Pinstripes before he landed on the Injured List. The last game he played for the Bronx Bombers was back on August 12. They faced a blowout loss (12-2) to the MLB-worst Chicago White Sox that day. Anyway, after spraining the UCL on his non-throwing left elbow during that game, the Yankees placed Jazz on the 10-day IL. Lately, it seems as if Chisholm Jr. is ready to make his big league return.

Reportedly, the Yankees will activate Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the 10-day Injured List soon. Previously, the NY side feared that the outfielder might need to undergo surgery. However, the reports of the MRI Scans showed no tear in the tissues. As per SNY Network’s Andy Martino, Aaron Boone and the Bombers plan to bring back Chisholm Jr. into the lineup ahead of the series opener against the Colorado Rockies. On Wednesday evening, Martino tweeted that once the team feared for Chisholm’s UCL surgery. But as it turns out that, the outfielder “Hardly missed any time.” Moreover, sources confirmed that Jazz will get ready before the game against the Rockies. On August 12, Chisholm Jr. tried to slid into home plate to score a run when he had a collision with Korey Lee, the White Sox catcher.

Since Jazz Chisholm Jr. won’t require an elbow reconstruction surgery, the Yankees could shorten his layoff greatly. He is just 26 years old. Moreover, the former Marlins outfielder had only one stint on the 10-day IL since he joined the NY side. Fans would be happy as the outfielder will be returning to the lineup after completing a short recovery. Moreover, the return of Jazz will greatly boost the Yankees offense. On top of that, only a few games are remaining before the start of the playoffs. The Yankees manager must have a plan for that as well.

Will The Third Baseman Replace Oswald Peraza?

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the Yankees have optioned out Oswald Peraza to Triple-A that indicates the return of Jazz who might replace him. They did it on Thursday evening. Hoch suggested that this decision was indicating that the team is making room for the impending return of Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Recently, Peraza got some rare playing time, but he could only go 2-10. Over four games, he managed to hit a home run and had a walk. It was not likely for the 24-year-old to get on the field once the other third baseman returned to the lineup. Since Jazz joined the Yankees, he has slashed .316/.361/.702 with a 1.000+ OPS and seven home runs.
